Co-Op Mutation #233: Death is Fleeting

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 05:53 AM PDT

Try as you might, the infestation seems all but impossible to kill off. The only hope for the colony now is to wipe out the infestation directly from the source. Destroy the infested structures to cleanse the colony.

    Map: Dead of Night

    Just Die!
Enemy units are automatically revived upon death.
    Void Reanimators
Void Reanimators wander the battlefield, bringing your enemies back to life.

    Rating: Brutal +4

    Video Replays on Brutal:

    Player 1                                   Player 2
[CtG(Shadow of Death Alarak)] Terribleness (Merchant of Death Arcturus)
[CtG(Chaotic Power Couple Han and Horner)] Galle (Architect of War Karax)
[CtG(Lord of the Horde Stukov)] Terribleness (Oil Baron Stetmann)
[CtG(Infiltration Specialist Nova)] Galle (Renegade Commander Raynor)

    Notes:

    • The infested buildings do not revive.
    • The revived infested still burn out during day time.
    • A [Void Reanimator] is a ground unit that walks around the map and instantly revives a single random unit every few seconds.
    • The Void Reanimator has 200HP and 200 shields, runs around without any minimap indicator, and cares not whether you killed an enemy a minute or an hour ago. He will revive it.
    • If at any point in the game, you get a seemingly endless stream of enemies, try searching up their attack path. There are probably 2-3 Void Reanimators there.
    • Up to four [4] Void Reanimators can be active on the map at any given time. If you lock them away somewhere, they will not be able to revive any more units.

    Starcraft/Brood War plot holes

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 03:17 PM PDT

Is it just me, or are there loads of plot holes in the original Starcraft and the Brood War expansion pack? How do the Protoss not know of the Zerg, despite their mutual Xel'Naga ancestry? How does Tassadar get stranded on Char despite the Protoss using warp technology to acquire buildings/units? And why does Zeratul claim that cerebrates "can only be killed by Dark Templar weapons", after the death of the Overmind?

Need help with appreciation of ZvP

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 10:35 PM PDT

I love to watch pro starcraft. But it happened so, that I'm a protoss and a whiner.

And I totally bought all the zerg hate lately. Before banes nerf i didn't enjoy any Zv_ where zergs were winning, because it never really looked like a struggle between players of same level on top. And all the stat existing out there was confirming this. Be it aligulac, tournament results or games I personally saw on streams.

Now things seem to be different. Seems like winrates are much closer now, and some protoss even reached final, where looking at score it seems like it was a close match.

Now I find ZvT entertaining, cheer for zergs and appreciate hard effort of their to win there too. Maru vs Serral games were so good and I even felt that terran had overall advantage, so I had lots of enjoyment watching games and cheering for Serral.

But then there were PvZ games in same group. And suddenly I felt zero appreciation of zerg's skill. Thinking of it, I understand that Serral, Reynor or any other top zerg are probably putting as much of work and effort into the game as they do in ZvT. But even watching Harstem's "Why Did Trap Lose To Reynor?" video I feel like it's all just a lie, and no matter what being said, result are really predetermined anyway. With my brain I understand that definitely Harstem understand the game and I dont, but I still feel this way. At this point I already feel like I'm wrong and just killing my own enjoyment of the game, but It still happens.

Maybe you guys would give me some argument to help in this inner argument of mine. I will write a random rant about this matchup and would be glad to add and incorporate any counterarguments to my thought process.

ZvP seems to me like a matchup in which only zerg's input matter for determining if zerg would lose. No matter how good protoss is playing, if zerg didn't mess things up then there is zero chances to win even if protoss play as good.

For example in ZvT there are such things as drops for example where small amount of terran units could deal massive damage if not reacted properly. In PvT it feel like such interactions are just non-existent. Maximum protoss has is zealots running into mineral lines, but from pro games it seems like proper way to counter it for zerg is not some active reaction but several spines placed here and there preemptively. And it seems to me like that's whole matchup. Either zerg is doing all preparations needed and then any efforts of protoss are futile or zerg miss something and win goes to protoss but it doesn't feel like input of protoss meant anything anyway and it was just a zerg throwing.

And that's all the time I look at this matchup. It's either protoss getting insta-loss because of ling flood or something like this or protoss is doing everything good and saving himself from all types of instalosses, and some people would say that game looks close, and protoss jsut needed to add these small changes to win. But then I look at the game more closely and see that it was all a lie, and it looked close just because zerg messed something up on his side.

For example 6th game of Trap vs Reynor. Game looks close at some stages and some people say that is trap made this and that adjustments, he would have won. But then I look at creep spread. And see that in 20 minutes there are five ~1+ minutes gaps in it, two of these gaps are about 2 minutes. And then I ask myself if not for these gaps, would game look anywhere close and would proposals to change something on protoss side be relevant? And suddenly I don't find this gamy to be close at any point except for initial push. What small changes protoss could add to his game which would require similar amount of effort and would give outcome of similar magnitude as creep being spread constantly without pauses? Both players are playing on their limits, but if we go into argument "he needed to" we have to apply same treatment to second player too. And suddenly it seems like zerg player has way more efficient ways to increase his chances to win with small changes/additions to his execution, so it paints whole argument just invalid in my eyes.

P.S. I know it's just another balance whine post, and you all are tired of these already, but I really want to like to watch PvZ and also think I may be wrong about matchup but can't quite change my mind on this on my own now %) Sorry %)
