DreamHack SC2 Masters: Fall - Post Event Feedback Posted: 20 Sep 2020 12:31 PM PDT Hello everyone, just like last season we would love to hear your thoughts on the Fall stretch of DH SC2 Masters! To catch you up to speed if you missed that one, my name is Matt and I'm the lead on DH SC2 Masters over at DreamHack. After each season our team comes together to discuss what we need to look at for the following season and the results here are always super helpful for me, Apollo, and Adebisi and our crew to guide our decisions. This current season a few of our adjustments were directly from what we learned last time. Parts like more player cams, better graphics to understand groups, an extended Season Finals schedule, and trying to avoid more conflicts with GSL were all commonly talked about parts in the last one we were able to look at so these opinions make our jobs easier and makes it more clear how to address the common themes. Last time we also received a lot of responses with a much higher completion rate than a lot of these surveys we run which I appreciate, and falls exactly in line with what I know and love about the SC2 community. You can find the survey here. As a final note I've had a blast working with the SC2 community so far this year and appreciate the kind words we have received so far since bringing the ESL Pro Tour to SC2. There's always a lot on my to-do we hope to achieve but I'm happy we have been able to start off strong and show what we're hoping to achieve. Reynor is insane - a stroke of tactical genius (SPOILER) Posted: 20 Sep 2020 11:58 AM PDT I just wanted to highlight one small thing that Reynor just did in game 6. https://clips.twitch.tv/WittyConcernedCiderPRChase On the surface, this is just a ling runby, they get in all the time, they've been getting in during this series. But what totally blew my mind was seeing the changeling walking away from the wall while the lings ran in. Reynor earlier in the game noticed with an Overseer that the wall was empty. What basically any other player would do is just send out a ling runby, and hope it gets in. However, Trap is incredibly good, obviously. Surely he would notice that the wall was empty, and warp in a Zealot to stop the runby? Reynor agreed. So he plugged the wall with a changeling. Trap saw the lings coming in, saw that he already had a Zealot on hold position there, and went to look at something else. Reynor then moved the changeling and ran the lings in. Just wanted to share this, as it's an example of a really small tactic, but something that completely blew my mind. Reynor is really good at this video game. EDIT: The more I think about this, the crazier it is. I'm going to have to check the replay when they're released for Trap's FPV, I'd be willing to bet that he noticed the lings, grabbed the "Zealot", and tried to put it back in the wall, then moved his screen somewhere else before he could see that it didn't work. This actually probably wouldn't work against a worse player, because their screen would still be on the wall and they would have time to warp in another Zealot in the wall. Posted: 20 Sep 2020 11:39 AM PDT I've been listening to Zombiegrub's podcast while driving around for work and keep thinking that her and Maynard make a good casting team. So far the finals are confirming my thoughts. No matter what you think about the games, I think the casters are doing a great job. Hype for Zoun vs Armani on Wednesday Posted: 20 Sep 2020 08:30 PM PDT Let's appreciate how amazing this match is going to be. We have two players who have both just begun to make appearances in the GSL (the last two seasons), and as such are our newcomers in a way. Another thing that both these players have in common is that beyond merely stepping into the spotlight they have both recently made huge steps up in the eyes and expectations of the SC2 community. Armani's rise has been more gradual, demonstrating consistency in various online tournaments, while Zoun's reputation has just now blown up with his amazing performance in this round of 32. Nobody guessed Zoun would go 2:0 against soO and 2:1 against INoVation to get out of the group first. Was it just a very, very good day from Zoun or is this the Zoun we can continue to expect as the GSL progresses? Armani, Zoun's zerg counterpart in rise-to-fame (and I postulate they are even counterparts in playstyle), and just as eager to prove himself, is here to test that question. Hype for the round of 24's first group! [link] [comments]
Some support for Harstem's series "Is it imba or do I suck" (written by another IIODIS victim) Posted: 20 Sep 2020 10:00 AM PDT Hi, I'm ADAV (not a fake, only cloaked under a different name on reddit) also known as the French Protoss "Tradebase" guy who complained in one of Harstem's "Is it imba or do I suck" videos about invincible spine forests and zerg imbalance and thus rightfully diagnosed with the "you suck" stamp (on the penultimate IIODIS video released one week ago). I really appreciated Harstem's work and particularly the roast on my "plastic master" level and I hope (if you're reading me here Mr. Harstem) that you won't be stopping your iconic series because of a single unfortunate setback ! I must say AlfaBlomman got into an exceptional situation (having his replay sent by his opponent without his consent see link on the reddit thread below). I'm also posting a reddit thread to say this wasn't my case. I deserved all the roast and it made me aware of my weaknesses with a good amount of laugh from an external POV which is exactly what I demanded. I just wanted to show my support to Harstem and his actual series of great banter that I'll continue to follow prolly long after I'll stop playing the game (chasing mutas with slow units is not my thing anymore :D). https://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/ivgoxg/i_got_trolled_into_harstems_most_recent_is_it/ Cheers everyone ! PS : I wasn't drunk at all in that game, simply the last one of a terrible loss streak. I just didn't want to drop a stargate for only 4 mutas, I thought I'll lose my stalkers splitting them if he rallied more mutas and I above all, I wanted these spines dead ! (my mistakes after all). I admit it, I have my bias against the Zerg race and I found that replay to be the perfect opportunity to share that with all of u. Also for all those hoping to climb the ladder and suck really hard just like me, you can do it, (I'm around 4,5 k atm) but most importantly, have fun playing the game ! List of premier event titles per race over the years for SC2 Posted: 20 Sep 2020 02:02 PM PDT Note the number in the parenthesis is the unique # of players that won those titles. Year 2011 counted both Code S and Code A each as 0.5.
2018-2020 were the only years where one race won much more titles than the other 2 combined (Z >> P + T). The only other years that came close were 2011 where T = P + Z, or 2015 where P = T + Z. It's also not just one superb Zerg winning it all either (rather, Maru won 4 in 2018, a saving grace for T. Edit: although 2018 Z result was also dominated by Serral's 7 wins). Shoutout to Nathanias for 2 great series yesterday Posted: 20 Sep 2020 02:01 AM PDT Maybe it's just me, but i really think Nathanias cast yesterday was far less biased than the day before. And i'm a Serral fanboy so I think it was particularly hard to not annoy me yesterday :D Good job [link] [comments]
