Its 2020 - Where is my Rotterdam announcer pack!

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 07:10 PM PST

I mean please - I purchased all the caster packs to date, but I really need to hear "You should be making Phoenix" when I cue up Vikings as Terran.

Seriously - make an announcer pack for Rotterdam and I will purchase it day one.

[META] We should review the posting rules.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 10:57 AM PST

Recently, this gem was posted. Before it was removed it recieved around 400 upvotes. People commented their enjoyment, and their dissatisfaction that it would be removed.

But does it really need to be removed?

Whether we like it or not, the community around this game is not the giant it once was, and seems to be a collection of dedicated players and old players that still enjoy Starcraft. What I'm saying is the subreddit isn't really growing any more.

Around 250,000 subs and the majority of posts on our front page are <100 upvotes. Our engagement is abysmal.

I have a solution. We should open the subreddit up to memes. This is a way we can communicate, and perpetuate engagement in our community. We don't even need to make a new flair, we have fluff.

So I say let them make memes. I've linked a poll here to vote.

Edit: Those that don't want memes here, why not?

The Story of (*Inset your League + #*) thread.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 07:15 AM PST

Hey all, was wondering if anyone would be interested in starting a thread like this in the community? If not....certainly wouldn't be the first time I was wrong and had a silly idea ;). But I was thinking, I'd love to hear from other players at all levels of Leagues. Ideally , people who have a good amount of experience in a league. I would personally love to hear the perspectives, struggles, what they've been struggling with (on a high level). I don't know if it would be best to start a thread for each League? (1 for Bronze, 1 for Silver, 1 for Gold, etc. etc.). Or just have everyone post on this thread? Or maybe, no one is even interested! I feel like it would be interesting in hearing from people who are stuck at the lower ranks.....but at the same time, I'd also love to hear from the Master's 1 players about to make that final push (because I know I will NEVER be at this spot haha).

I figured I'd start, and people in the community could tell me if this is 1) even something that has any appeal, 2) how to make it better 3) what else it's missing.

    The Story of (Diamond 1).
Diamond 1 is a frustrating spot to be in. I feel like I will likely be here for a very very long time...Maybe forever. The older I get though (42, going on 43), the more I'm okay with that. I realize that people at this level are (relatively) good, take the game seriously , and try hard. I feel like Diamond as a whole is where this game kinda changes from a strategy game, (just need to do things in the right order, and move things to the right places).....to a video game, where you need to micro better and have quick reactions. Sadly Diamond 1 was also an awakening though. At Plat. and low diamond, I thought....eh' I'll get to masters in no time, I don't have that much to change. Ohhhhh that's adorable Ordin, you naive little one. Now I know I have so much I'd need to improve. Even more troubling, I've become more aware that in order to fix things certain things, I'd have to re-learn what I've been doing for the last 15,000 games :(. Hotkeys for one small example. As I've got better I know that I'd need to have multiple armies split up, one hotkey for spell casters (maybe 2), a "dump" hotkey, a harass or runby hotkey, and the list could go on and on. What have I largely been doing, 1, maybe 2 army groups and A moving. Always worked fine, but now I'm facing multiple angle attacks, split army groups and more.
The gap from Dia. 3 to Dia. 1 is a MASSIVE divide. Of course this exists with all leagues to a degree. I'd heard the gap from low GM to high GM is much wider than this....but still the gap here is fairly massive. Numerically, I believe, this is the widest MMR difference of all the leagues (Obviously excluding GM which can just get insane). From Diamond 3 to Diamond 1 being 1100 MMR apart. Of course, looking at the MMR #s alone isn't a great way to compare leagues, especially because the higher you get the difference in MMR becomes greater as the numbers go higher. In other words....from my understanding, someone going from 6.5k to 7k is MUCH harder than someone going from 3.5k to 4k. However, I do still firmly believe the skill/knowledge gap from D3 to When you enter M3 is enormous.
I play usually around the border of high Dia. 1 and Masters 3. I have been in Masters 3 a handful of times, but always struggle at the border and seem to drop back down. This of course means, as you get close to the border, you're facing Masters league players....and the skill level just shoots through the roof compared to when I just get into Dia.1 and am playing Dia2 players. Build orders are better, people are executing timing attacks much more crisply, cheese/all ins are well executed (sorta), army control is solid (more or less). Obviously for a M1/GM player....this is all a joke lol, but coming from the lower leagues...that's how it feels.
What was interesting during the league progression is that Plat. 1/Low-Mid Diamond....there was a LOT of cheesing/All ins. I feel like high Dia., stuff started to settle to standard games more often. Sure, you def. still get cheesed, but lower diamond it was constant. This seemed the border when players started realizing the cheeses weren't working as well and played a bit more standard.
I feel like this league is possibly, where many Starcraft players spend the bulk of their careers? Hardstuck for quite some time? Throwing myself under the bus....it took me 22 seasons before I made Masters, and the vast majority of those were in Diamond, close to the border of Masters. Unable to make that final push. Maybe it's just me, especially because i'm old haha ;).

Sorry if this is too much? Was hoping to try something new and see if it works for the community. Would anyone like to give their perspectives about their respective leagues? Or add to Diamond 1? Or tell me to F off and this is a horrible idea. GL HF everyone!

How do Marines hit air units? A question answered.

How do Marines hit air units? A question answered.

So I was wondering how do Marines hit air units and after I looked at the Arisaka Type 99's anti-aircraft gunsight,I came up with an headcanon explaination that would also work with the CMC-300/400's targeting systems.

The Type 99 Arisaka's anti aircraft sights extended with it's lead bars extended. The C-14 Impaler Gauss Rifle would use a similar setup for it's backup iron sights in case if the CMC armor's targeting system fails or if the visor is raised up.Of course your average joe Japanese soldier/human bullet (yes, they were literally called bullets in being that expendable.) in Manchuria in the early stages of WWII does not have to deal with mutalisks.

The way this works is that when the rear backup iron sight of the C14 is flipped up,the sight displays an adjustable aperature fittted to a ladder with lead bars. When the marine is trying to shoot down a muta or any other air unit,he /she will first flip the rear BUIS up and then flip down the lead bars. Our marine would set the range on the ladder then estimate the speed of the aircraft/flying creature he/she was trying to shoot down, line up the front and rear backup iron sights and then fire once the air unit crosses the apporiate marking on the lead bars.If the marine has his/her visor down,he or she would use the targeting systems of the armor to target and shoot down air units and hence the sights would be kept flipped down.

Of course,8mm spikes fired at hypersonic velocities are better at gunning down air units than the 7.7x58mm of the Arisaka Type 99 and for larger unit such as Battlecruisers, pour enough gauss rifle rounds at it's armor and it will eventually punch a hole through.

People with high MMR (masters/Gm), how do you take losing a battle or a game?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 09:18 AM PST

I mean psychologically speaking, what is your reaction to losing? I feel like what has kept me away from advancing and what keeps people in general away from getting better is some kind of fear and frustration about losing. Or just being bad. And with that fear and frustration comes some anticipatory anxiety when you're about to play or take an engagement which leads to uncontrolled emotions and ultimately fucking up.

So aside from the very negative emotions of actually losing a battle or match, there's also a lot of anxiety before even engaging.

Do you think/act differently? By looking at pro gamers or even high mmr streamers, they look chill af. I am an emotional trainwreck when playing.

I feel like my mindset and the mindset of bad players or people that hit a plateau in general is that we aim to beat the other player instead of aiming to get better.

Or rather, my mindset is to AVOID LOSING, not to get better or win.
