    Starcraft Co-Op Mutation #187: Onslaught

    Co-Op Mutation #187: Onslaught

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 03:09 AM PST

The infested horde refuse to stay down for good. They emerge from enemy buildings, their own corpses, and even right on top of your army! Destroy the infested structures to cleanse them permanently.

    Map: Dead of Night

    Aggressive Deployment
Additional enemy units are periodically deployed onto the battlefield.
    Outbreak
Enemy Infested Terrans spawn continuously around the map.
    Void Reanimators
Void Reanimators wander the battlefield, bringing your enemies back to life.

    Video Replays on Brutal:

    Player 1                                   Player 2
    [CtG (Arcturus)] Iswald (Artanis)
    [CtG (Stukov)] Iswald (Tychus)
[CtG (Han and Horner)] Lila (Swann)
    [CtG (Zeratul)] Aommaster (Zagara)
    [CtG (Kerrigan)] Grayback (Nova)
    [CtG (Fenix)] Ancalagon (Karax)

    Notes:

    • Aggressive Deployment drops extra waves close to your army. If you have no army, it will drop in your base and possibly your mineral line.
    • Outbreak spawns Infested Terrans, Infested Medics, Infested Marines later, and later Aberrations from any enemy building.
    • A [Void Reanimator] is a ground unit that walks around the map and instantly revives a single random unit every few seconds.
    • The Void Reanimator has 200HP and 200 shields, runs around without any minimap indicator, and cares not whether you killed an enemy a minute or an hour ago. He will revive it.
    • If at any point in the game, you get a seemingly endless stream of enemies, try searching up their attack path. There are probably 2-3 Void Reanimators there.
    • Infested spawned from mutators do not burn out during the day time.
    • The Command Center float cheese is not advisable due to the lag that can be created by the Void Reanimators continuously reviving fallen units that do not burn out during the day time.

    A love letter to StarCraft.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:34 PM PST

StarCraft is an amazing game. As a longtime lover of both rts games and StarCraft in particular I felt I should speak up in support of the games and the community. As the quintessential rts title with historically excellent balance and a perfect mix of mechanical skill and strategic planning this game is an absolute joy to watch and play. There is a substantial initial hurdle to learn to be efficient enough to even compete and that makes this game both more rewarding and has a quality that only ripens with age like a fine wine. If Blizzard abandons us which is extremely unlikely but if it happened there would be a successor. A worthy one born from the immense passion this game has cultivated within the player base. Thank you for playing and get more people to play. Share the game. For us.

Starcraft 2 at the South East Asian Games this week! Help needed for information and spreading the word

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 08:46 AM PST

    I need the communities help!

This week, E-sports including Starcraft 2 is being included in the South East Asian( SEA ) games. The games themselves happen every 2 years, and are quite popular for thos living in the Sea Region. This is a big deal as this means that SC2 will be showcased alongside other traditional sport such as swimming, track and field, football etc with national players being sent and medals given out. Keep in mind E-sports is still not considered a legitimate career for the most part, and there are very limited opportunities for those players. This, to me at least, is a major boost in terms of publicity and legitimacy for those players .

YET, there has been rather limited information/fanfare about it. I can't even find the list of players or brackets or casters, although I heard the latter has not been released. No word about the prize pool ether, if it exists. Hence, I would like to ask if anyone knows anything about those subjects and any other major information about it. I hope this does not go unnoticed, maybe even had it in the r/starcraft " event list", which I do not know how to add it or it if is worthy of being added.

For those curious, here are what details and resources I have found

Main website . Yes there is a section called Athletes but it keeps doing down, and it only shows by "esport" not by game.

Schedule Scroll down for easy to read Schedule.

Stream( Toggle is a Singaporean digital video on demand service brand owned by Mediacorp. It seems you have to create an account to watch. If someone knows another stream please let me know.

    TL Link

As someone from the SEA region, who loves Starcraft I hope the community does what it can to promote and showcase this event.

What constitutes an objectively good map pool?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 02:48 PM PST

I've heard a lot of people complaining about the maps this season for a variety of reasons. The issues at the start with corrupted textures, misplaced doodads, and the additional whatnots are obviously a big negative. But even after these were presumably fixed, there's a vocal portion of the community that seem to think this is just a god-awful map pool all around. Some of these comments range from mild dissent to outright talking shit at anyone remotely involved in the map creation process.

However, if this is the case, then what would a good map or collection of maps look like? If the bugs are the issue, would removing bugs make these maps good? If color is the issue, would making them lighter/darker but otherwise exactly the same make these maps good? What would be considered "standard" for a good map, if there is such a thing? And maybe most importantly: what could be done in future map pools to improve the quality of created maps to create and maintain objectively good map pools?

I think simple things like "well not fucking up reaper pathing is a good start" are both obvious and not very helpful. Looking for honest and unbiased answers and discussion. Assuming no bugs, no texture or placement issues, and no inappropriate asymmetrical alignment, what actually makes a good map good? Why? What kind of styles of play would a good map encourage or discourage, if any, and why is this a good thing?

    Map of the Korpulu Sector

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 05:14 PM PST

Alright people, this has been bugging me for a long time now, but I cannot, at all, find a map, not just a reliable map, but an actual canon confirmed map itself of the Korpulu sector, and am here today wondering if anyone else has.

Because I am seriously on the verge of attempting to make my own just for the sake of sanity, using what little facts I can scrounge up to best estimate everything. Here are some following facts and thoughts about ways you know a Korpulu map has some level of accuracy:

Char is apparently placed somewhat close to the Confederate/Dominion worlds, but possesses a wide enough space between it and those planets to have a buffer zone of some kind.

Mar Sara was considered a Confederate Core World, but a Dominion Fringe World, suggesting that Tarsonis is placed considerably closer to Mar Sara then Korhal is.

Haven is located on the edge of Protoss space.

Auir was at the center of Protoss space, its fall may have caused a huge shift in Protoss borders however. With it reclaimed though, it may once again be at the core of Protoss space.

Ulnar, Zerus, and Earth ARE NOT in the Korpulu sector.

Given that colonists from Agria evacuated to the KMC world of Meinhoff, it can be reasonably assumed that the KMC's territory lays close to Dominion Fringe Worlds. Also, since Agria and Mar Sara seem to be on the Fringes, it seems likely the two planets are reasonably close to each other.

Shakurus should be a reasonable distance away from Auir, though also not exceptionally far either. Although since it was recently destroyed, one might think you could ignore it, but it would be nice to list anyways.

Anyways, if someone can find, or wants to try their own hand at making an accurate map, that would be great.

    WarChest skin/description contest?

If WC is second most lucrative content, I think this kind of community event would have a great popularity and many participants.

    Can I get some opinions?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 12:02 PM PST

Hello everyone! I'm studying esports in college and am doing a project in regards to revitalizing the SC2 scene and popularizing it even further within the west and would like to know everyone's opinions on:

    • Viewing experience for the esport (Is it enjoyable to watch? Easily understood?)
    • Ladder experience (Is grinding the ladder a chore or fun? What are the best things you encounter while playing? What are the worst?)
    • I'm theorycrafting a new team-based mode that would have 3 v 3 with one main base and three smaller bases. The team wins when the opposing side's main base is destroyed. If this was fleshed out, would you play it? What are some cool things you can see happening with this? What are you worried about?

    Thanks guys in advance!

    Edit 1:

    to clarify how the "main base" works in 3v3;

Goal: create an objective that can be protected/built around by all players of a team that shakes up tradition Starcraft gameplay

     - Think of it like search and destroy. There is only one of said base and it would have higher health values then other bases (to prevent cheese straits of sending in one guy to chip it away unnoticed). - Allied players can not interact with the base/move it. Only the enemy team can by damaging it. - the location of the enemy's main base is revealed at the start of the game In regards to how teammates interact with each other:

Goal: Require team cooperation to be necessary to win.

Thought up two forms of how it would go ('A' and 'B')

Form A: One for All - Each player has a shared resource pool and it carries out like traditional 3v3 (separate bases, production, etc.) - Players are restricted to one team voted upon race

Form B: All for One - Each player has individual resource pools and it carries out like traditional 3v3 (separate bases, production, etc.) - Each player on the team must use different races. (One Zerg, one Protoss, and one Terran)

Please let me know if any of this should be changed, what y'all like about it and any suggestions you have in mind! :D

Edit 2; Also let me know about Cheese strategies!

Are you for or against them? What's your least favorite if you are against and most favorite if you are for?
