Would you like StarCraft 1 commanders in SC2 co-op?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:46 AM PST

Now that we have Arcturus as a Co-op commander, I was wondering if they could add some SC1/Brood War characters into the mix. I mean, at first I thought that was impossible because they never fought Amon, but Mengsk didn't do it either, so I guess that doesn't really matter.

So what do you think? Tassadar, the Overmind, DuGalle, Fenix, Daggoth, Aldaris, Edmund Duke... I think there're some good options there.

It just hit me how long of a break I took from playing starcraft

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 08:40 PM PST

4 years ago I stopped playing starcraft naturally just amongst moving, playing different games and school. I'd thought that it'd been 2 years max. I just started playing and I was aware of Serral winning blizzcon as a Finn and a zerg, I was aware of blizzcon this year.

But I thought those were the only two to have happened. I saw a lowko video talking about uthermal and the 14rax reapers, and I heard him talk about byun, who's name I correctly recognized as the last person to win wcs while I was playing. But when I looked him up and saw that he won in 2016 I thought I'd just remembered the wrong name. I went to look up who won wcs that year. I went back through the wiki from 2019-2016 and was kinda shocked to see the 2017 blizzcon not have him winning. And seeing that it had actually been 4 years since I played this game. Genuinely truly shocked.

But I am very happy to be back, I find the game incredibly fun still. I still hate playing against terran, but for different reasons this time. But somehow I feel like I'm playing much better than I did before. Right now I don't use any real game plan going in, and just do whatever I feel and I seem to be winning more than I'm losing. Happy to be back

    Starcraft: Wings of Justice

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 10:03 PM PST

Six months have passed since Kerrigan's murder of Fenix and Jim Raynor's vow of vengeance. Following the loss of many Humans loyal to him, Raynor's Raiders fled back into Protoss space, and established a base of operations on Shakuras. Following the defeat of the Terran and Protoss forces at the Char orbital platform, young Artanis has also returned to Shakuras, followed soon after by a messenger from Zeratul to bring warnings of the Protoss/Zerg hybrid creations.

From Shakuras, Raynor's Raiders launch countless rescue or recovery operations to add to their small numbers by recovering as many of Mengsk's imprisoned enemies, or other rebel sympathizers, as possible. On Shakuras - Raynor, Artanis, Vorazun, and their surviving associates consolidate their holdings and prepare for a grim, dark future. Commander Raynor has hardened significantly in the past few months, and the bitter humans that now make up Raynor's Raiders adopt ever-more extreme methods to prepare for a war against Mengsk, Kerrigan, and the monstrosities Zeratul warned them of. Equally-embittered, the Dark Templar and the Aiur Refugees have eagerly sworn oaths of vengeance - having lost homes and families, Raynor's Raiders have had only limited difficulty assimilating to their new homes among those desiring revenge and justice as much as they do, and were eagerly accepted into the new Heirarchy, with Raynor given a seat on the Twilight Council.

    ...

    ...

    ...

The camera zooms down to the surface of Shakuras, hovering over a dark stargate. The gate hums with energy and lights up the darkness, as a portal begins to open.. after a few seconds, several vessels fly through the portal; a mix of Terran and Protoss ships, including scouts, shuttles, wraiths, dropships, and an Arbiter. A mix of Terran landing lights and Protoss illumination crystals focus on a landing area as the Arbiter moves into position. The Terran floodlights turn red and an alert sounds, as several surrounding pylons begin warping in a large force surrounding the platform below the Arbiter.

Zealots, Marines, Medics, and Dragoons, quickly exit the pylon power fields and take position around the platform as the Arbiter uses its mass-recall ability, and a number of stasis-locked humans are deposited onto the platform. Shortly thereafter, the stasis field fades, and the humans are held at the point of zealot blades as they are restrained and have bags placed over each of their heads by the marines. They are forced down, as the medics search them for items or weapons. They are then loaded onto a small prisoner truck, which begins to drive down a road.

Low, imposing music begins to play as the camera follows the truck and pans around its surroundings; sounds of weapons firing, soldiers training, ships building, and muffled conversations can be heard in the background. The camera pans through several training grounds as Terran and Protoss spar with one-another or against Zerg holograms. A human in a labcoat is seen holding what looks to be an EMP-capable variant of a ghost's rifle, showcasing and demonstrating its effects to several surrounding Protoss. Several ships of both races are being constructed or repaired in neat rows next to each-other - but despite the air of productivity and creation, the music remains low and tense, almost ominous.

The truck drives into what appears to be some kind of parking garage, and backs up to a force-fielded area. A pair of marines and zealots look over the vehicle and its contents with scrutiny, as the humans are removed one-by-one and sent into small force-fielded containment boxes.

The camera follows one, as their containment box is isolated in a small room. The field is lowered, the human's bindings are removed, and they are sat down in a chair - and their arms and legs are immediately restrained to the chair. The bag over their head is removed, and the human gets a sight of a marine - the marine raises an eyebrow, before turning and exiting the room.

A polite, yet oddly discomforting voice is heard from behind the human as a woman in a labcoat paces in front of the subject's field of view before speaking..

"We apologize for the cold reception. We do not take chances with our security here. I am the ranking medic in this facility, and it is my job to figure out who you are, if you can be trusted, and to what extent." she says, looking the human over as if appraising a weapon. The camera pans down to the human.

It is at this point the character's appearance is customized; what follows is a series of questions about where they are from. Several starting traits or bonuses are selected from this dialogue.

"I have information on a hidden prison facility the Dominion recently built, if you'll just give me access to a starmap -"

"Yes, I'm sure you'd love to see a map." the Medic says, chuckling, before continuing - "But I don't know if I should give you one."

"I can prove my loyalty, I sabotaged the defenses when I heard your Raiders had shown up. That's why the turrets were offline, that's why they didn't fire! That's how you captured as many people as you did - I helped you!" the human states.

The Medic folds her arms, then lefts one finger to her cheek, as if pondering. "Is that so?"

She paces behind the human and then leans in as if to whisper to them. "I do hope you're not lying to me, wasting our time is not smiled upon."

The human remains stoic. "I am not lying."

The Medic sighs aloud, as if she has heard this same claim a thousand times - and answers with a resigned tone, "Oh, very well.. I'll send you along to the higher ups."

The camera shifts to a much more well-lit room, as a group at a semi-circle table sit and judge the human, placed in a chair in the center of the room. A marine and a zealot can be seen on either side of the human, and the Medic stands nearby with her arms folded. The camera pans up to several Protoss and a couple of humans, one noticeably being Commander Raynor, as they discuss. He speaks.

"If what you say is true, a massive Dominion prison colony has recently been made, and only has a garrison to police the prisoners - not enough to resist an attack on the facility yet, despite all the prisoners being sent there already.. if something's too good to be true, it usually isn't true." Raynor says, resting his elbows on the table and eyeing the human.

A psionic voice is heard as one of the Protoss looks over to the Medic. "Doctor Ziegler, are you sure of this person?"

    "No." she responds, curtly.

"Enough debate." states one of the other humans. He leans forward out of the shadows, and is revealed to be Gabriel Tosh. "We can get the truth out of them, see where their loyalties truly lie."

"Without destroying their brain?" Raynor queries.

"Human minds are a tricky thing." Tosh states, "But together with the Protoss, our new spectre program is already much more advanced than the ghosts of Mengsk's so-called dominion.. I believe we can get the information without scarring their mind."

"Then it's settled." one of the Protoss states. Raynor and the others nod in agreement. Raynor looks down at the human, "We will test where your loyalties lie.. thoroughly."

The music continues to take a low, foreboding tone as the camera shifts to see the human strapped to a table as an ominous red glow lights the room. Doctor Ziegler attaches several needles, tubes, and other medical items to the human as the spectre paces around to be next to the human's head. The spectre looks down, looming over them. Two voices can be heard - one human, one psionic and powerful - even more than a normal protoss voice. In perfect unison; they say aloud, "Let us begin."

The camera slowly pans back to reveal the source of the red glow: a Dark Archon.

    ... ... ...

The music picks up, and the camera pans to the human - now well-dressed and wearing a Raynor's Raiders uniform - standing in front of the same council from earlier, but this time not restrained. Raynor speaks.

"You will be given command of a group of raiders, and lead this rescue operation. We expect you to take no shortcuts with regard to security - a person's body can house a beacon or be infested just as much as their mind can." he says. One of the Protoss continues, "You must test any you recruit for both purity of form, and purity of essence." - Raynor nods in agreement.

"Go now, and bring our new brothers and sisters home." Raynor says in conclusion.

    The cinematic ends.

So, after having seen the stories for wings of liberty, heart of the swarm, and legacy of the void, a few things stood out as odd - while people have talked a lot about Raynor's actions and that's been a point of controversy, my attention was particularly drawn to one point: since Raynor+Protoss are doing joint operations in brood war and doing warp-ins and recalls etc, it seemed to make more sense that Raynor's Raiders would be the faction that had Terran+Protoss technology and had Terrans warping in - as opposed to the Moebius Foundation having that. Based on the protoss-zerg hybrid stuff, I would have thought the Moebius Foundation would've been focused more on Terran/Zerg stuff and Zerg/Protoss stuff. So I tried my hand at writing a different intro that framed Raynor's Raiders in a way it seemed like things would progress from the end of Brood War as an alternate intro to WOL of sorts - and added in a character creator because why not. I ripped off the interrogation sequence from Battlefleet Gothic, but it seems like Raynor&co would've probably fled to protoss space and started doing human/protoss stuff as the logical conclusion, based on the end of Brood War.

Can't get Mengsk's units in Starcraft World Editor

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 01:48 AM PST

I fell in love with Mengsk as a co-op commander, and i was seeing if i could try out some of his units and build orders without the time pressure an actual game, with a random would provide.

Usually when i try out these new commanders, i go into the starcraft 2 world editor and add the co-op commander dependency, and i'm able to place their units. But i can't seem to find Mengsk's units. Is this a result of him being really new, a bug with the editor, or me just being an idiot?

Advice Inside - So you lost to a comp that you are unfamiliar with?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 07:41 AM PST

Everyone know the feeling when you play vs a comp you are unfamiliar with or just not good against. You feel like you know whats going on, your macro and micro is on point but you still loose but don´t know how.

    1. write GG - you lost accept it. dont flame your opponent. following steps wont work with someone upset
    2. ask your opponent (ingame before leaving) what you should have done different. if he is nice we will tell you.
    3. ask him to play some more games
    4. play games untill you know whats going on and how to beat that comp
    5. enjoy your new earned knowledge and maybe you found a new friend/practice partner aswell

    hf practicing

that might seem a dull post but it really helps a lot more then just going on reddit asking why did you lose. you have the opportunity to practice same games vs the same guy you lost.

Another observer bug in KSL final?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 01:37 PM PST

In the last game of the KSL final Light scouted the main of Rain at around 4:45. The observer turned on the vision of Light at this moment. The pylon in the bottom of Rain's base was in Light's vision.

Almost 1 minute later, Light managed to get an scv into Rain's base again. However, when the observer turned on Light's vision again, the pylon was not there.

    Here are the screenshot:

    4:48 https://imgur.com/W0JBLAq

    5:43 https://imgur.com/BfEH6G9

    Both screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/GKQpXH9

    VOD of the game https://www.twitch.tv/videos/514721194?t=3h7m45s

    What is a possible explanation?

Is it possible that Light did actually NOT see the bottom pylon the first time at 4:48? I think had Light actually seen the pylon the first time he would have checked it the second time since he had enough time to go down there.

I know mods aren't allowed, but what would be your "silly mod"?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 11:42 AM PST

Blizzard bans modding for their games outside their own map editors and such, but humor the idea for a second. Imagine that you could mod certain things in terms of cosmetics, sound, etc., and wanted to go with something silly. What would it be?

For example, while playing Co-op as Dehaka, I'd find it hilarious if his Devour sound effects were replaced with Yoshi sounds. Just like the following:
    https://youtu.be/-OHD4apQUuQ

Heck, a full-on Yoshi replacer for Dehaka would leave my sides splitting.

Or as another silly mod, change all of Fenix's probes into Probius. :P

What would you do? Keep it silly, please.

Anyone else just doesn't want to ladder due to the chance of getting that one match up.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2019 10:53 AM PST

For me this match up is tvt. The most recent patch has made it even worse as the raven nerf has made being defensive in tvt harder to pull off (at least in my eyes). This is because of the increased cost to matrix which makes holding off all in tank/Viking pushes harder but this isn't the only reason I hate the matchup.

It has been made more profound this season as I have played 15 games 12 have been tvt. I know some people might just say its a trend and it will pass but every season I have an overwhelming amount more tvt games than other matchups. It got so bad one season that tvt was twice as played as my 2nd most played match-up.

Anyway sorry for the rant/vent wanted to know how other people deal with it.

Edit: The primary reason I was even so fed up with the match up was how it was literally (not changing the numbers) 72 % of my games and this season been pretty much all I have played.
