A Quick Look at the Starcraft II Lead Developers Posted: 12 Aug 2020 07:59 AM PDT With Tim Morten no longer with Blizzard and Mike Scipione having been moved to the WC3R team, Kevin Dong has been almost the only face of the development team that's been appearing on camera. Starcraft II has lost a lot of visibility at BlizzCon and has been moved from being managed by Team 1 to Classic Games. We finally got a better look at the current leadership during the 10th anniversary with a couple of the big lead developers appearing on The Pylon Show. I wanted to take a quick look at the big names still associated with Starcraft II.(Of course they're not the only developers, just the leads.) Kaeo Milker has taken the Starcraft II Production Director position previously held by Tim Morten. He started at Blizzard working Quality Assurance for Warcraft III back in 2002. He was a Senior Game Producer for Starcraft II before becoming Lead Production Director for Heroes of the Storm. Kaeo has definitely been a public face during some big hype and tough times through the reorganization of Heroes and the closing of their esports leagues as well as the roller coaster of being the Production Director of Warcraft III Reforged as the pre-release promotion was going. With Heroes, Warcraft III, and Starcraft II now all under the Classic Games division he appears to be Production Director of all three.(I couldn't find anything to verify if Starcraft Remastered also falls under his leadership but I'm assuming it does. He's not on LinkedIn so I'm mostly relying on interviews he's done over the last two years.) Ryan Schutter is the Lead Designer for Starcraft II, previously the Lead UI Designer. He was heavily involved in created the GameHeart mod for observing competitive Starcraft II. Blizzard was so impressed with the mod that they hired him to create an official Blizzard version for WCS back in 2014. He quickly moved from Associate Technical Designer to UI Designer as they put him to work finding other ways to improve the visual design and user interface for Starcraft II. Ryan has been a driving force behind updating the map editor with the fruits of the endeavor being revealed in the recent 5.0 update. Kevin Dong is the Lead Co-op Designer for Starcraft II. He's been a longtime Blizzard RTS fan who made some popular Warcraft III maps. When Starcraft II was released he started working for Team Liquid as an editor on Liquipedia. He wrote numerous strategy articles and was the main writer for the Best Games of the Year blogs covering Starcraft II esports. He also wrote many articles covering competitive Hearthstone. When Co-op was released in Legacy of the Void he became heavily involved in the scene, particularly with speed-running the missions. He ran a Co-op Discord server and wrote in-depth Co-op articles on Liquipedia. During one of the Starcraft community summits he brought several ideas for Co-op to the development team and ended up accepting an offer to join Blizzard in 2017. Since then he has led the Co-op development team designing new Commanders and making balance changes to existing ones. He also assists with Versus. So there you have it. With the minimal presence Starcraft has had at BlizzCon it's important to remember that there is an actual development team even if they don't appear on camera often. [link] [comments]

Would anyone be interested in watching the GSL finals in a movie theater? (Omaha, NE) Posted: 12 Aug 2020 01:12 PM PDT Apparently the Alamo Drafthouse is renting out their theatres. I was considering doing it just to watch the finals, lol. Anyone live nearby that would be interested? [link] [comments]
