ESL has overall done a great job managing Dreamhack, but can we please get the VODs more organized?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 03:31 AM PST

Don't want to complain too much about a great tournament, but I wanted to watch the finals and they are currently in a vod titled "RERUN: uThermal vs. PtitDrogo - DH Masters: Winter 2020 - Group D - EU" Not exactly a model of clarity.

Happy Fifth Birthday LotV. I recreated the pic I sent to my starcraft buddies when LotV was released.

Starcraft 1 was more fun on fast, small maps and without spidermine abuse. Yes, this is a Starcraft1 balance patch post.

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 10:44 PM PST

Fast takes more skill. No matter what people say, it does. Fastest speed just means you can toggle between all managing your army and all managing your base. On fast, you can do perfect base while doing perfect army. Fastest is a crutch for newer players to try and catch someone off guard. Imagine if you will, speeds beyond fastest, like hyperactive fastest or ludicrious fastest. Basically you could make the game so fast the units go across the board instantly. In such a game mode, the best strategy would be to take your probes and attack move the other three starting positions and you'd win instantly because the move speed and attack speed is 10,000x what it is now. Fastest isn't better. But this is my unpopular opinion.

I found the rush/counter rush to be a much more tight and meticulous beast before spdiermine abuse and large maps were made. The tight zergling/marine/zealot dancing is such an awesome thing that I am sad that spidermine abuse has you fast forward past that part anymore. I know everyone goes,"Oh, Starcraft is a perfect game, don't touch balance.", but it ain't a perfect game, and it has key balance issues that should be fixed.

#1: Spidermines when dropping a mine, the mine should delay 4 seconds before engaging. Mines are meant to surprise your opponent, not be a missile you drop off in front of your face. 75 mineral vultures should never counter 125 mineral +gas Dragoons by just laying mines in their face. Vultures will still be broken op even with +4 second arming delay because they're worth it for harass and mines will still be very powerful for their role. I don't know how people can't see how broken dumb spider mines are. Blizzard fixed Goblin Land Mines, but no one, in all of the 20 years that spidermines were abused that no one saw how huge of an issue this is?

You take out spidermine abuse, and you'll see more zealot/marine/zergling early game play. This makes the game less rock/paper/scissory because rush/counter rush happens every game. Part of the equation in that the maps need to be small.

    Other random balance changes:
+1 damage ATG scout (Scouts were over nerfed)
+1 damage ATG Wraith (Wraiths were also over nerfed when nerfed)
Hyrdalisks should get a cheap t2 upgrade, maybe 50/50, that allows their attack type to change to the one that actually deals full damage to mutalisk. Hyrdalisks can't hold a candle to a mutalisk player even in open ground. They fixed this in Starcraft2, why not SC1?

I'm not seriously saying that the game should be reduced to fast from fastest, but it took more skill to play fast than fastest. I am totally serious about these balance changes tho. Would anyone be willing to play some if I made a UMS map with these balance changes? I was #1 in the World at Broodwar and Vanilla Starcraft, but that was back before spidermine abuse and 20 years of rust is a lot.

PM me if you're down for a couple balance changed 1v1s.

Hey, I started up Starcraft 2 multiplayer after almost 7 years now.

My first 10 minutes were, wait what? How? I don't need to split? What does this do? Why can't I build that. Well after a few bot matches I think I understand the new units and buildings I've missed but I need build orders.

I basically can't recall any of the old WOL build orders (4 gate woot?) and I don't think those matter anymore.

Can someone please provide me with some good PvP, PvZ, PvT build orders that I can practice before I decide to jump back in Versus again.

    Thanks!
