Starcraft Changes to the Meme Rules

Starcraft Changes to the Meme Rules

    Changes to the Meme Rules

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 08:53 AM PDT

TL;DR: All StarCraft relevant memes are allowed. Memes will not be moderated based on subjectivity

Thank you very much for your feedback on this subreddit's rules regarding memes and lighthearted content. This is not the first time this issue has come up since we updated the policy on such posts, and we have now decided we need to change our approach. Our old fluff/meme rules were crafted in a good faith effort to make sure that /r/starcraft could be space for both "fun" and "serious" content. Unfortunately the old rules were difficult to follow/understand for users and difficult to consistently enforce for the mods.

After some consideration within the mod team and some self-reflection we have decided to change the rules as follows:

Effective immediately we will be implementing a new standard for memes and fluff content on /r/starcraft.

Memes will still be allowed. Instead of moderating memes based on quality (subjective) we will be moderating memes objectively based on the criteria below. Popular meme templates and image macros are no longer forbidden. ALL (relevant) MEMES are allowed.

    In summary:

    • All meme posts must contain content relevant to Starcraft, including references from any franchise title, community persona, any official publication about the game itself, etc. This content can be via an image, text, audio, or any combination. The title of the post alone is not enough to make the post relevant.

    • Additionally, the context or joke of the post must be relevant to Starcraft (E.g. posting a marine helmet on an otherwise unrelated image does not inherently qualify a post).

    • NSFW content is not permitted, neither is illegal content, extreme gore, shock content, etc.

Moving forward, we are going to watch how these new rules play out and see how it affects the content that makes it to the front page. The main motivation behind the original quality rule was to prevent memes from potentially pushing out more substantial content. This is a concern for all subreddits that allow images and discussion posts and want to have a balance between both. We are expecting a large spike in meme posts for a few days with this new rule, but we hope that in time /r/starcraft finds a good balance between all types of content on the subreddit. If this causes the front page to become overly saturated with memes then we will re-evaluate the rules.

We hope these changes will give you all a better experience on /r/starcraft. Again, these changes are reflective of the constructive feedback we have received. We do urge you all to submit both serious and fun content on the subreddit, and to not hesitate using the upvote and downvote button where you see fit. If you have questions or concerns please feel free to share them in the comment section or via modmail.

    Thank you and GLHF

    Flair Updates

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 09:12 AM PDT

    Hello all,

This post is intended to provide an update to the /r/starcraft community regarding the status of a couple of things. We have been in discussion for the last few days about some changes and updates that are going to be implemented around here and we wanted to let you all know, and keep you in the loop.

    New flairs

I will start with the first thing on the agenda here and that is the War Chest Team League. Wardi has graciously given us the logos for the War Chest teams. As such, we have added them as flair options, and now you are able to show your support by flaring yourself with your team of choice. Furthermore, to better reflect the current scene and show support for the very vital regular teams, flairs have been added for: J-Team, Brave Star Gaming, KaiZi Gaming, Mkers, Team GP, Dragon Phoenix Gaming, Team Rotti, Raise Your Edge Gaming, KAP, BIG, Team eXoN and Kosmos Esports.

Show some support to these amazing teams and have fun with it! Teams have always been a vital part of the scene and the War Chest Team League has been a spectacular event to follow and you can check out information about it here

If there's a team that doesn't have a flair but you think should have one, please contact us via modmail and we will look into it.

How to add a flair To put a flair on in new Reddit, look to the sidebar for "Community options", click on that and then the pencil icon next to the heading "User flair preview" to open the flair list and apply your desired flair.

To do the same on old Reddit, again, look to the sidebar. Under the heading "Starcraft" you will find your name and (edit- click to choose your flair) next to it. Click on that to open the flair list and add the flair you want to apply.

So I randomly tuned into the Pylon Show and saw Incontrol laughing in his little webcam box and smiled for half a second before remembering.

They were playing some old Pylon Show clips for the anniversary, but there was just that instant before your brain catches up with your eyes where the Pylon Show was on and Incontrol was alive again.

    It hurt.

Today is StarCraft 2 10th anniversary and I want to say..

    Posted: 27 Jul 2020 07:30 AM PDT

I want to say thank you Blizzard for this amazing game! I just watched all 3 opening cinematics (WoL, HoTS and LotV) and they bring so much emotions and nostalgia. I still get the chills when I first watched them back then.

I don't care about the "dead game" memes and I don't care about all the controversy that has been surrounding SC lately. I just love that game. It has been 10 years since I started playing SC2 and following the pro-scene, and it has been more than 20 years since I first started playing the original StarCraft. They say it's a dead game, but that game has been a big part of my life and that game gave me the reason to enjoy life more. I will still be a major fan of StarCraft for the years to come no matter what.

Thank you again Blizzard for making StarCraft <3
