According to EsportsEarnings.com, 5 different players have the chance to end up #1 in total tournament earnings following IEM Katowice.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 02:24 PM PST

For those that do not know, EsportsEarnings.com is a great resource for evaluating tournament winnings for esports players across all major titles.

Currently, Maru is ranked #1 in total tournament winnings of all SC2 players, at a whopping $808,551.50 throughout his career. However, four other players set to compete at IEM Katowice main event will be vying to dethrone Maru at the top spot. Below is a breakdown of how these players could become the winningest player in SC2 history based on their placing at IEM Katowice this weekend:

    Maru
    Total Winnings: $808,551.50 (Rank #1)
To stay at #1, the following must occur:
    - Maru places higher than the four players listed below or
    - Maru places the same or higher than Serral (no lower than 5th-8th) and Dark does not win IEM Katowice
    - Maru places 2nd and Dark does not win IEM Katowice
    - Maru places no lower than 5th-8th and Serral places lower than Maru and Dark places lower than 2nd and Innovation or Rogue do not win IEM Katowice

    Serral
    Total Winnings: $804,994.74 (Rank #2)
    To achieve #1:
    - Serral wins IEM Katowice or
    - Serral places at least 8th and higher than Maru as well as the other contenders below or
    - Maru places 9th-12th or lower and Serral places at least 4th and the other contenders place lower than Serral or
    - Maru places 9th-12th or lower and Serral places no lower than 8th and Dark places no higher than 3rd-4th and Innovation or Rogue do not win IEM Katowice. or
    - Dark does not win IEM Katowice with Serral placing at least 8th place and above Maru

    Dark
    Total Winnings: $753,039.89 (Rank 3)
    To achieve #1:
    - Dark wins IEM Katowice or
    - Dark places 2nd and both Maru and Serral place lower than 8th and Innovation does not win IEM Katowice or
    - Dark places 2nd and Maru places lower than 8th and Serral places 5th-8th and Innovation does not win IEM Katowice

    Innovation
    Total Winnings: $697,446.99 (Rank 4)
    To achieve #1:
    - Innovation wins IEM Katowice and Maru and Serral both place lower than 2nd

    Rogue
    Total Winnings: $677.185.00 (Rank 5)
    To achieve #1:
    - Rogue wins IEM Katowice and Maru and Serral both place lower than 4th

All currency listed above is in USD, per https://www.esportsearnings.com/games/151-starcraft-ii. If I missed anything, please let me know in the comments. Crazy to think that after 10 years of SC2, there are still contenders battling it out at the same tournament for #1 overall. Also crazy to consider that sOs, a player who has won three $100K tournaments is ranked #6 overall and has no chance to achieve #1 after IEM Katowice.

EDIT: The following players can breach into the top 5 all time earners with a win at IEM Katowice and lucky placings by other players:
sOs (Currently Rank 6 at $601,788.23)
soO (Currently Rank 7 at $591,700.95)
TY (Currently Rank 8 at $588,281.13)
Stats (Currently Rank 9 at $588,281,13)

Lack of sleep = lack of performance

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 03:26 PM PST

A shocker, I know, and it's something I'm sure everybody has heard before, but it bears repeating.

In this 2003 study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12683469 they looked at people for 14 days getting 8 hrs of sleep, 6, 4, and another group with no sleep for 3 days.

They concluded for the groups that got 4 hours and 6 hours of sleep, they had decreased alertness and working memory compared to those who hadn't sleep for 2 days.

Those whose sleep were restricted noted sleepiness but this did not accumulate over the days. So, while they did not feel more and more tired (in essence they felt fine), their cognitive performance continued to worsen.

What's that mean? Get some sleep. It will make you a better player (if that's your goal). Simple as that. I can't tell you whether performing like you havent slept for 2 days is the reason why you sit at 4400 mmr, or 6500 mmr, but all I can say is it has a big impact whether you recognize that or not.

    Cheers!

Why do things become unbalanced? Ruppies

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 07:03 PM PST

I understand that metas change and unit usage changes as patches occur but I want to ask...why?

A year ago the disruptor was one of the least used unit in the game, there has been no major changes to the unit. I also understand that as other units are balanced, it changes the interactions with non changed units.

Almost every Terran personality and streamer now complains about the disruptor being overpowered and not having a counter. Coming off the last patch as Toss was nerfed.

Why wasn't this the case a year ago? Just because usage change? In my opinion, if anything was nerfed about the disruptor, Toss would just turn to the other AOE units and it would go back to a not used unit. I don't think a unit usage rate shouldn't determine balance.

    Food for Thought

Feedback - Back After Leaving SC2 during LOTV Launch

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 01:45 AM PST

    Hi,

I left the game during LOTV launch as I was completely against the 12 worker start and new economy that seemed really stressful as the game itself was not that stressful to begin with. I went back to play BW till it was fucked up with remaster launch ( I know it is fixed now and I play it from time to time but the damage was done) , then moved back to Warcraft 3 and been enjoying it till they fucked it up with reforged and making it unplayable so I wanted to retry SC2 again and I have to say I'm really having fun.

I was Terran player that mainly played Mech in HOTS against all races (Including Protoss) and reached Masters with it, even though I completely forgot the unit stats and tons of shit that changed like Raven abilities and Thor AA (Which I really really love). Blasting those carriers is like having an orgasm. Still not happy with the 12 worker start but at least bases do not seem deplete resources insanely fast like it was during LOTV launch or maybe I'm kind of used to it.

My favorite unit is Tank and sadly seems not viable in TvZ with new SH but at least Hellion Cyclone seems doing Okaish for me so I'm good I guess, TvP mech seems much more fun with Tanks having 70 damage (Finally!) and the Raven Anti-Armor is really nice making Protoss army much vulnerable. So I was wondering, is TvP Mech finally viable or not?

Anyway, the TLDR, I'm back for a while to SC2 and I'm loving it :)

Should disruptor nova be able to follow units?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:33 PM PST

Watching heromarine right now, and I never knew this (don't play protoss) but apparently the disruptor nova can be right clicked on enemy units and it follows them around? This seems pretty silly right? It is already a unit with crazy potential and puts the onus on the opponent to split or take absurd damage, is this autopilot mode needed?

Is there a way to reset MMR on a race without creating a new account?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 01:15 AM PST

    Hey guys!

I am playing SC2 as zerg since beta and it was always fun because matchmaking is quite good. If I lose - I know that I could do better; if I win - I feel it was earned.

Two years ago I had a phase where I wanted to improve and went from gold 1 to diamond 3. But in the end, I felt it takes too much time. I stopped playing and came back recently.

To my surprise after one lost qualification match, I was placed Diamond 2. I am now losing all matches because of my poor macro. Not really fun losing 10 games in a row by stomp :(

I started playing Protoss because I never played them, and after two quick loses, I had a decent match. I don't think matchmaking is broken. It just totally unfairly put my zerg skills higher than it should.

I could leave 10 matches after loading but I feel this is unfair to other players who wait in the loading screen. I hate such victories.

Is there some kind of reset button for MMR? So I can play 5 qualification matches and be placed somewhere in platinum where I feel I belong? :P
