DISCUSSION - The Starcraft Subreddit is now a meme free subreddit

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:14 AM PST

NOTE: I'd like to note here that this is not an appeal to have my meme un-removed. I've messaged the mods privately to discuss that. I included the below as an example of what I'd like to discuss.

Most of you have probably seen, or even upvoted one or many of my memes (warpgate eyes/self deprecating low skill jokes). They've generally been some of the most popular content on the sub over the last month or so. Recently, a post which I made that was top of the sub and probably headed to 1500+ upvotes was removed. There's a new rule in there that says "NOTE: Jokes as memes are not allowed."

I've not seen any announcement of this rule anywhere on the sub and, in fact, in my last interaction with the mods they said that as long as a meme wasn't completely low effort and was modified to fit into the Starcraft theme that it was good to go. There seems to have been a change to this policy which has not been communicated to the community at large. I think at the very least this major rule change deserves a sticky/announcement post, but in all honesty it really deserves full community input and should not be implemented via mod fiat.

Clearly the posts are incredibly popular with the community. They regularly get more upvotes than almost any other content. Is that reason enough to allow them? In my opinion yes. I believe in the reddit upvote/downvote system and that it effectively determines relevance on its own and mods should take a hands off approach aside from major or obvious violations. I also would argue that memes aren't only for humor. In a lot of the posts I've submitted it actually engenders a lot of discussion around the viability of cheese, the morality of cheese and has even connected some lesser experienced players with the concept as a whole and where to learn to execute it.

In my opinion, removing any post that has the potential to a) drive engagement in the community, b) provide relevant entertainment value to the community or c) actively engenders discussion relevant to the game we all love should absolutely not be banned.

What does the rest of /r/starcraft think?

EDIT: I went over to the rules and it shows they were last edited 7 months ago and it does include the no memes rule. That being the case the application of this rule has been so mindlessly abritrary you really need to ask should it be a rule at all. It seems like the mods here are not a cohesive unit here such that some mods enforce differently than others.

EDIT: There's a lot of good discussion going on here as well as mod engagement which is appreciated. I encourage everyone to read through the whole thread and pay particular attention to mod comments.

    Build order optimizer?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 09:52 PM PST

I remember a long time ago I used some kind of build order optimizer. You could set a goal like 8 tanks, 20 hellbats, 3 medivacs and it would simulate 100s of scenarios trying to find the most optimal build to get to the goal as fast as possible.

What is the most up to date tool in SC2 for this?

    SC2 CHEESE stealing content?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 09:40 AM PST

So I usually see replays on youtube, and recently it has been popping up a lot of videos from "SC2 CHEESE" channel, I saw a few of them and they seem the same videos from SC2HL channel just edited to pass the youtube filters (ie cropped screens, bright or contrast too high, and different ending).

So, are they stealing the content? are they violating YouTube policies?

    4v4 is torture

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 11:23 PM PST

Does anyone else feel like they're in a self inflicted hell where all you do is play ranked 4v4s, waiting 5+ minutes for a game, just so you get cannon rushed, ling rushed, and you barely survive but your teammate quit. You still play for 3 minutes just so your not the pussy who quit but atleast he knew it was a waste of time.

Hear me out. I really wish there was a game mode in sc2 that involved longer games, and or a series of games.

Maybe players can opt to play with eachother after a game.

Or players can agree to play best of 3 games.

I would love a game mode that took over multiple matches, but the results of each match affect the proceeding match. Like maybe your surviving workers and base will last into the next match, including upgrades and research, maybe even the army (could be unfair though)

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 08:09 PM PST

How can we control marines to quickly attack, move back, attack, move back like in this video or almost all TvX pro matches?

Left-click+A attacks. How to quickly stop and move back and then turn back and attack again, over and over again?
