A guy is on a 20+ hour ladder session of team killing allies in 4v4 to tank his mmr, he needs to be banned ASAP. This behavior ruins casual player's experience on sc2

The guy is on a 20 + hour session of killing teammates at the start of every 4v4 to tank his mmr.

Current mmr is at 300 or so which is just ridiculous, he instant pulls his workers to kill teammates at the start of everygame.

Why don't other races ever pull the boys?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 11:24 PM PDT

I mean, I'm sure it's happened at some point and there are obviously special builds like drone drill or the florencio probe rush but terrans much more consistently use it as a midgame all-in tool. Why don't we see it from Z or P?

Is it happening this year? If so, when?

As an American the recent performances by Astrea and MCanning gave me hope that my humble little nation might be able to field a team that is just as skilled as it is lovable. Hope to see it this year so they can make a movie about the "'Merican Miracle"

    Terran bio mine

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 02:31 AM PDT

Anyone have tips? Bio mine seems massively more difficult than bio tank. I can't seem to figure why. Guesses are they are small and hard to click on? They blend into the bio so it's hard to find them? Since there are more than tanks, it's hard to shift queue them into the ground..?

Bigger Mini Map for Esports viewing?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 04:41 PM PDT

Have there ever been any attempts to try out a casting UI that makes the minimap bigger for viewers? During a lot of games a big part of the overall story of what's happening in a match is going on there, and as a viewer, I'm constantly staring at it to get a sense of what's going on. As a player, the size is fine, but it always feels a bit small and hard to see as a viewer especially when watching on a TV from my couch.

I feel like it's one of the big advantages SC2 has as an esport is how much interesting strategy and match story is being conveyed in the mini map. Even being live at Blizzcon, with all the monitors they have, I remember just wishing they could just throw the minimap up by itself on a huge monitor so I could really clearly concentrate on it when I wanted. It feels like having the mini map bigger for casts would emphasize how important it is in telling the story fo the match, especially for viewers who are newer to watching SC2.

'real time' in game isn't quite as real as it seems

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 09:06 AM PDT

In patch 3.0.0 Blizzard made the following change:

In multiplayer games, the game timer now shows real time instead of scaling the time based on game speed.

But it turns out they didn't actually make the game timer real time.

After recording 10 minutes of faster speed game footage I checked how long 1 minute in game actually took.

0:01 in game started at frame 1201 and 1:01 started at frame 4730. This means 1 minute on the in game clock took 3529 frames, which at 60 fps is an actual time of 58.82 real seconds.

Just to make sure I checked for 10:01 which happened at frame 36492. A total of 35291 frames for 10 minutes. So 600 in game seconds actually took just 588.18 real seconds, consistent with the findings for 1 minute. This means 1 in game second is actually 0.98 real seconds.

Results here: https://imgur.com/a/uoH9Y4a (note: I realise that the program shows the time for each frame but doing the maths myself makes me sound smarter)

Shoutout to my friend Rize for noticing this when he used a stopwatch to check against the in game time on a stream thinking the stream was playing too fast.

    Background noise on GSL youtube??

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 04:43 PM PDT

Am I crazy or is there consistently background noise over the youtube of GSL broadcasts? It sounds like someone is watching videos and the audio is coming through. This was particularly annoying in Stats vs Maru from this week. What the heck is going on here?

Does anyone remember the name of that map with the huge mineral?

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 09:09 AM PDT

Been trying for a while but can't remember.

Played in the GSL/GSTL/OSL or something like that. Two player map, portrait shaped, spawns at top and bottom.

It had two huge minerals/coins(?) around the centre of the map. A player can risk sending a worker out early to mine it (mining take a while as well). While the worker could get sniped, but they got like 300 or 400 minerals from that one trip.

    Style Comparison: Serral and Reynor

    Posted: 09 Oct 2020 05:22 AM PDT

In 2018 and 2019 we saw Serral pretty much the undisputed best in the world (well, and Maru). In my view the things that made Serral unstoppable were his powerful decision-making, flawless mechanics, and uncompromising style. He never missed an upgrade or a macro cycle or an expansion opportunity, always had the right unit composition, and chose the right engagements. In all this time the only real chink in his armor seemed to be ZvZ where Soo and later Reynor took notable wins off him. Here in the tail-end of 2020, though, Serral's position as GOAT seems to have been wrested; there was the exceptional victory of Clem over him in the Dreamhack Masters, and there's the recurring story of Reynor beating him directly and also out-performing him against the rest of the world on the tournament stage. I'm not sure how Reynor's performance directly compares to the Korean great Zergs, Dark and Rogue, but that's a topic for another day.

Right now I'm wondering what, in the eyes of you who know the game so much better than I, sets Reynor's style apart from Serral? My impression is that without falling behind in the mechanical side of things, he has a much sharper, more aggresssive style than Serral. Serral wins always feel like he's just crushing his opponents, python style; like they played the whole game but never had a chance. I don't see as many Reynor games but I don't get that sense; instead I see him cutting the legs out from his opponents with run-bys, counter-attacks, and opportunism. If Serral expresses, "You never really had a chance," from Reynor I feel "You shouldn't have let that back door unlocked; actually, that side window; actually, that chimney..."

What are your takes on the differences in how these players find (or don't find) success?
