[ArtosisNet][X-Post /r/machinelarning] I trained a neural network to identify rage moments Posted: 10 May 2020 02:27 PM PDT TLDR: Decent example of highlight reel generated using the model Not so good example of highlight reel generated using the model As you can see the model is still sometimes confused by animated face gestures---though it is classifying fewer frames as salty so using a more aggressive threshold for including clips might help here. Examples of model performing inference on some clips in the validation set: (Note that these are run at a higher fps) (Some validation clips are recycled examples from earlier versions of the code when they were chosen as highlights, so there's funny looking text boxes from overlaying text boxes on top of text boxes). MULE Math: How long does it take for an Orbital Command to break even using MULEs? Posted: 10 May 2020 02:50 PM PDT I was watching a Day9 video about 2v2 strategy and he pointed out a Terran player who forgoed an Orbital Command in favor of early-game pressure. I wondered how much of a lead that gave them and tried to figure out how long it takes for an Orbital to break even economically. Here's what I came up with: All mining calculations are done using "far" mineral patches. Player A buys an Orbital, which costs 150 minerals. Player B buys an SCV, which costs 50. The SCV takes 12 seconds to build, while the Orbital takes 25. From this, Player B increases his lead by 13 seconds of SCV mining time at a rate of 53.57mpm. That adds 11.6 minerals to Player A's mineral deficit, now totaling 111.6. Player B is also able to build roughly 2 more SCVs while the Orbital builds. In that time frame, the first of the SCVs mines at 53.57mpm *0.22min (13 seconds) = 11.79 minerals, while the second one builds. 100 minerals for the cost of these SCVs offset by the 11.76 mineral ROI during this time costing Player B a total of 88.24 minerals. Subtract this from Player B's previous lead of 111.6 minerals and we have Player A at a deficit of 23.36 by the time the Orbital is finished. Player A's Orbital calls down a MULE with its 50 starting energy as soon as it is finished, and begins mining at a rate of 211.07mpm (minerals per minute). Meanwhile, Player B's 3 additional SCVs continue mining at a rate of 53.57mpm*3 = 160.71mpm, giving Player A a mining rate lead of 50.36mpm. At this rate, it will take -- 27.6 seconds (0.46 minutes) to recover Player A's remaining deficit of 23.36 minerals. Player A will continue to enjoy the benefit of the additional 50.36mpm (and -2 supply) for the rest of the game if he continuously uses MULEs. Some notes:
Not the most game-changing data, but I thought some of you might be curious to know. Also, please correct me if I made any errors. tl;dr 27.6 seconds after Orbital completion. EDIT: WHOOPS. Thanks for pointing it out: Orbital Command does not take 12 seconds to build. I re-did the math. EDIT 2: WHOOPS. Forgot to add the additional 3 SCVs made during the Orbital build time. I re-re-did the math. EDIT 3: I should give up at this point, but I used the wrong Orbital number again. It's 25, not 35, which changes Player B's additional SCVs to 2. Re-re-redid the math. Curious: Do People Like the Emphasis on Worker Harrass? Posted: 10 May 2020 04:18 PM PDT Starting to feel fatigue finally from this game's emphasis on worker harrass vs. promoting army battles and skirmishes. Feel like every game I am just focusing on prevent worker harass. Do people like this aspect of the game or is this just me? [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 May 2020 01:29 PM PDT Longtime SC2 fan, I've watched just about every good series there's ever been. So I'm asking for your guys help to find some more! Right now some of my favorite are Life vs Maru in IEM Season IX Taipei, Serral vs Stats GSL vs the the World 2018, and TY vs Maru WESG 2016. I left out some of the older tournaments because after just rewatching some WOL tournaments they don't hold up very well. A lot of poor micro and the reduced worker count without the newer units made for a slower game IMO. So please put down a few of your favorites series and one "meme" series. My favorite one ATM is Life vs Lilbow round of 16 2015 WSC Global Finals. Banelings ZvP balance suggestion Posted: 10 May 2020 04:09 AM PDT During the recent Wardi balance test mode invitational Nathanias was slugging it out in the twitch chat. He was trying to defend the fact that the baneling nerf impacts ZvT way more, whereas ZvP was the targeted matchup. He said that he'll give anyone $5 if they came up with a baneling nerf that doesn't impact ZvT. He is my suggestion:
Thanks, Nathanias! I want my $5. xd [link] [comments]

Blizzard cinematics and lore inaccuracies Posted: 10 May 2020 10:33 PM PDT Why is Blizzard so bad at portraying certain elements of the lore? We know that when protoss footsoldiers get injured they get teleported away (blue light, no body left), otherwise they would leave corpses just as humans do. Blizzard cant seem graps this simple idea. In LoTV cinematic the baneling-zealot dies, we see the blue light for teleport yet the body remains. And further up on Aiur, in-game cutscenes we see multiple protoss/nerazim dying and just vanishing into thin air. Not teleport, just slow vanishing away after death. But why? We have no lore precedent for it. It may be more dramatic visual-wise (zeratul death) or easier to animate (cutscenes), but it still buggs me the hell out. [link] [comments]

Random Zerg Unit Quote Generator Posted: 10 May 2020 09:30 PM PDT Has anyone ever made a random noise generator that would spit out a different Zerg unit quote every time you activate it? Me and my friends who played Brood War back in the day wanted to test ourselves and see if we could identify which unit it was just based on the various gargling and screeching noises. Where to find hotkey profiles for Starcraft 2 accounts on Mac OS? (self-answered) Posted: 10 May 2020 10:54 AM PDT Why a new post if one already exists?I found via google another post in reddit that answers this question, but that answer is outdated and doesn't work anymore. Also it's archived so I can't append the updated answer there. How to find your hotkey filesOpen up your terminal program (press Cmd+ Spacebar, type in 'Terminal' if you don't know where it is) Copy/paste in
(be very careful when people on the internet tell you to copy paste anything into a terminal. be sure to read the command and understand what it's doing (or ask somebody you know that could to read it)) In this case this command will open a directory that has your accounts that you've logged in as before on your current computer for Starcraft 2. Interestingly, these account folders are based on some number (not sure what they represent, perhaps a unique id of yours at Blizzard for your account) so they won't just say MyGamerTag#22222 and make it easy on us. In each of these account directories which are represented by a #, they each have their own
directory in those directories for each of those account directories the hotkey files themselves have a You can copy/paste these around between your other account directories and your account should I believe instantly have it (If you're alt+tabbed from Starcraft 2 you might have to at least close the hotkey settings menu while it's open and re-open it, or at worse just re-log in to battle.net) If for some reason you want to know which of these account #'s related to which specific account and you can't reduce that based on the hotkey profile file names (which are the same names you typed in), you can do what I did and create a new profile name for your account, and just call it THIS_IS_BLAH_ACCOUNT, save it and then re-check your directories here and you can then deduce which account the hotkeys for that folder belong to. Why use the terminal program to open the directory? If you've ever had to look at configuration files for some app in Mac OSX, you'll know it can be quite a pain and relatively unintuitive to find it. If you aren't in the right users folder, or whatever it can be a bit misleading if the instructions are vague. Apple assumes we're all n00bs and tries to hide that sort of stuff from us, a copy/paste solution is less likely to have problems getting to where you need to go. [link] [comments]
