Legacy of the Void: Terran Edition IS OUT NOW!

    Posted: 30 May 2020 08:39 PM PDT

My latest project is finally up in the Arcade! Legacy of the Void: Terran Edition is a modification of the original LotV campaign in which you play as terran. It features voice lines from WoL, Mercenaries, Armory upgrades, Lab upgrades (which you can choose before each mission) and a difficulty choosing system.

It's available to play on the arcade right now, even if you have the free version of SC2.

    Any feedback is appreciated!

GSL TY vs Parting Ro4: TY’s review (Translation in post)

    Posted: 30 May 2020 07:00 AM PDT

I do not know how to post a video and add text at the same time so I will just leave a link.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS9qHUU72yQ&t=778s

So I started this translation cuz I am a TY fan and I know you guys would like to hear what he had to say (also I was bored due to the quarantine life). I wanted to give up mid-way because translating a 30 minute video was way more time consuming, tiresome, and longer than I imagined. I just finished anyway since it felt like a waste of work already done. Quality of writing kinda drops mid-way cuz I was a bit lazy but I didn't mistranslate I believe. I did not proofread so there will be grammar mistakes. Hope you enjoy :D

0:36 I wanted to make Parting passive from the get go so I planned on doing an early all-in build

0:50 Originally, I was going to build my proxy barracks here but I had a bad feeling about the location so I switched the location

1:44 As you can see, the shield battery went up so early. I talked to Parting after the game, he told me that Parting knew for sure an early marauder push was going to come. So in this scenario, I should have lost. The only strategy that would have worked was trying to lure his units with a scv and hitting them with concussive shells when they are far from the shield battery. Parting should have not been curious and was supposed to stay in base but I won due to a fluke.

3:06 The reason I chose the proxy marauder strat was because if you go for a 2 barracks proxy, opponents can react to it after they scout my main base. For the marauder strat, protoss can't predict what kind of build the terran is going because there is another barracks blocking the entrance of my main base.

3:29 Oh there are some Crunky (chocolate) on my lips. I ate some before the match and forgot to wipe it off.

3:43 So here I blocked off my entrance again and this makes the protoss to have a headache. He can't predict what build I am going and in this situation he built his gateway on his natural which makes him worry more.

4:10 Solar was my secret supporter that helped me reach the Finals. He told me that there was a blind spot. (Think TY was talking about the blind spot in Parting's main). I was able to win all my games in this map in Ro8 and Ro4 thanks to you. Thank you Solar for your legacy. I am using it well.

4:45 My objective was to kill about 7 to 8 probes with these 3 hellions. So I was putting pressure in the front with marines and my medevac was heading to that blind spot.

5:08 (Clapping and thanking for $30 donation)

5:25 I got 16 probes here and when I saw that DT shrine, there was nothing Parting could do from that point. Especially when your opponent is Parting, you have to click on every building that is being built.

5:55 I scanned on his natural here and I was so surprised how ahead I was. I automatically thought he had a hidden base. I even sent a viking towards the upper left corner to check a hidden base.

7:16 I was wondering how I could beat Parting who already beat Maru. I realized Parting had a hidden arch nemesis, Special. Special told me ''don't allow to him play his game". So I prepared mainly on strategic build orders.

8:08 I was supposed to defend this by positioning my reapers close to his base but I was a little late doing that. I thought everything was fine if I defended the CC but Parting focused his chrono boosts on his gateway and his push was scarier than I expected.

8:52 I was behind and was supposed to put a bit of pressure with my hellions and reapers and build a tech lab for banshees. However, Parting forgot to research the crucial warp gate tech. He was supposed to have about 6 stalkers at this point with warp gates and able to defend easily.

9:36 Looks at the number of stalkers (Surprised Pikachu face)

10:13 I was so surprised how I won and took a peek at Parting. I shouldn't have saw Parting because you could easily tell he was psychologically hurting. After I saw Parting like that, I started to relax too much (TY thought he already was going to the Finals at this point). From this point Parting almost took me to Hell. I started thinking about the interview with Gyuri, thoughts about ''when was the Finals? I have to get in shape for taking pictures for the GSL Finals. I should start working out". ''This foolish guy (talking about himself) does this again even after blowing leads multiple times in the past because he got too arrogant. As a professional, it must be impossible to lose 4 games straight in a Bo7.''

11:24 Build information: I skipped the reaper and went fast factory so the hellion drop is 5 to 10 seconds faster than usual. Hellions will be dropped in his base before blink research and I will have an opportunity to do damage. With this push, I just A attack the marines in the front and I focused all my attention on getting probes with my hellions. I would have been satisfied if I got 6 probes but I got more than that.

12:25 At this point, I realized that I 100% won this if I defend well. Making a raven for getting rid of observers, making tanks, and closing my entrance. I was confident that I could defend his push. But there was one variable that I forgot. The pilot of the stalkers. I totally forgot that I was playing against Parting. I should have built 2 or 3 bunkers at my natural if I knew it was Parting.

13:30 Building depots in the front like that was a poor decision. The main point to defend this is to kill the observer so that the stalkers can't blink forward easily.

14:00 I win this if I defend. I win this if I defend. I win this if I defend. I already got a lot of his probes and he keeps making stalkers and his army strength will diminish soon. I upgraded concussive shells instead of stimpack because I just needed to defend this push any way possible. Because I already killed his observer, I didn't realize his second observer was there.

14:34 ''ah shit… YOU HAVE ANOTHER ONE?''

14:50 Here he blinks over to the left and I thought he plays so frustrating. After this match, I realized that Parting is the father of blink stalkers. He is number 1 in that category. Other players are good at microing blink stalkers as well, but finding weak spots in well-positioned defense is a very difficult task. It feels like only Parting can do that.

    15:25 Oh he is praying

15:34 I watched Parting's stream and realized whenever he had a proxy gate, he builds a pylon in his opponent's base. So I immediately knew he had a proxy gate. I knew I would have defended this push if I killed the pylon asap and build a bunker there. If I built my barracks far away from my main, I would have been in trouble since the reaper takes forever to come back to defend.

16:20 Full health stalker. Full health stalker.

16:37 I gave my reaper for bait to kill the probes with my mines. But his reaction time was good.

16:54 Generally, you always want to do stimpack research first, but I researched concussive shells first because I was so afraid of his blink stalkers. I was so scared that I was shaking my hands whole game. You don't realize this horrific feeling just by watching the game. You need to play against him in order to truly know how scary his stalkers are.

17:40 I talked with Parting while we were drinking: ''Your build is so tricky to defend. Am I the only one having a hard time defending this? Is this because I am nervous on stage?'' Parting's response was shocking. Parting said that even in practice, his opponents (I am assuming his pro teammates) went counter builds to defend his stalker build. He won every game.

18:20 So here I made the worst mistake. I showed my main army in the front to distract him so that my marine can poke in the north. I did this because I was worried that Parting would catch my army in the north. Parting vs Maru fifth match came to my mind resulting Maru's army getting annihilated. So my original plan was to slightly fight with him with my army in the front but I didn't notice he had so many stalkers there. Big oops.

19:25 I just told myself that I had to just defend this and go late game since I am confident in my late game. However Parting didn't give me any time.

19:50 "This is going to be a reverse sweep. Why did I become so careless? I hated myself and thought I was pathetic." I told myself "You idiot are you going to get knocked out like this again?"

20:23 Earlier I told you that I was thinking about the interview, etc when the score was 3-0. When the sixth set started, I was thinking who I should have a drink with, how will people make fun of me, how am I going to overcome the mockery.

20:50 Even if you kill the observer, it feels like Parting knows where your army is at. It felt irrelevant that he had no observers. Since Parting was leading the game once again, I had a bad feeling about this game as well.

21:28 What kind of bullshit is this (in a joking manner) blinking towards my mineral line in the corner like that when I have 3 tanks.

21:38 I noticed that I was so behind when I saw 2 collosi when I was making widow mines. At first I assumed they were hallucinated collosi, then I went into shock after I realized they were real.

22:08 After practicing in recent games, I gained so much confidence in late games so I knew I was going to win if this went to late game.

22:30 (he calls himself SC2's Warren Buffett by comparing his late game defense to his successful stock story) (I am assuming he scored pretty big by waiting to sell his stock when things were going bad)

22:44 I started to pray that Parting would make a mistake. And this happened. Parting suddenly had split personalities, one ordering him to attack and the other ordering him to defend. My prayer worked :D

23:48 As Parting has pride in his blink stalkers, I have pride in my late game.

24:00 Parting's style is weak against tanks because he doesn't go carriers. He likes to make more gateways and outnumber his opponents but that's not the answer for my late game defense. I never intended to push out and I was prepared to go for an hour long game. My plan was to keep nuking expos and expand my base slowly by massing tanks.

24:56 Even though it didn't show on the screen, Parting loses his whole army by my tanks here in a huge accident. I didn't see my army dying here but trading my trash army with Parting's main army was a miracle trade.

25:58 In a late game situation, your concentration is the most important. But after a huge mistake, almost every pro loses his concentration. Parting started to fall apart and kept on pushing when he wasn't supposed to.

26:38 I have much confidence in my late game nuke strat to execute as well as Maru does.

26:55 I knew I won at this point but I didn't want him to even have a 0.1% chance to come back. I had so many reverse comebacks in my career and I was sick of it. I didn't have the confidence to beat Parting in game 7 as well. So I never pushed out at this point to make sure I get the W.

27:38 Terran has a good chance of winning late games because of planetary fortresses. It is easy to win trades because you know that PFs are going to delay/ defend side pushes. I was originally planning to go late game every single set.

28:22 I will tell you why ghosts and tanks comp is op. in order for the protoss to get the ghosts, you need an observer. However if there is a turret near the ghosts, the observer can't approach the ghosts. (Pause) To be honest, most people can't use this strat. Unless you are a master of late game, it is very hard to pull off.

29:13 Terran's dream… Twin PFs. The reason I made twin PFs is because Zest told me that a single PF just gets demolished in a second by 8 dts with 2 upgrades. You can't destroy twin PFs. I cussed at terran players who made twin PFs when I played zerg or protoss. It is so op. It is sturdier than the Great Wall.

30:33 There is a reason why Parting couldn't go carriers. I was already prepared even if he went carriers.

31:14 This was my plan as a big picture. My smaller plans were those early tactical builds but if they didn't work, I always had this tank, nuke late game strat prepared.

31:53 As a result, I was able to go to the Finals

Old player returning to SC2, need a question answered.

    Posted: 30 May 2020 08:15 PM PDT

I have been playing SC since roughly 2000. Played SC2 from launch date and have been on and off with it. I have never really been a ladder kind of guy, ive always preffered to play custom games and co-op. Now i want to try my hand at ladder.

My question is what, if any, milestones should I achieve before getting into ladder. My biggest concern is getting stomped mercilessly and repetitively enough that I just wont enjoy playing ladder. (my problem with OG SC).

    INnoVation vs Cure

Going into most matches we barely have a relevant sample size to examine, the exact opposite was true here as these two have played each other so often we can look at their recent history during this year alone to get a great preview of what to expect, which overall could be summed up as a decisively clear statistical advantage for INnoVation to deliver the expected result.

Furthermore, the intangibles were also going in the Terran Champion's favor, having not only gone deep in Code S many more times not to mention sharing the record for second most trophies won in this tournament but also his opponent having never pushed through this particular Round; in terms of history and statistics, this series felt over before it'd started.

So if everything was pretty much pointing in the direction of the veteran favorite, why even watch at that point, we already knew what would happen, right? "I would never die for my beliefs because I might be wrong", there's no such thing as a guaranteed outcome when legacy, pride and dreams are on the line.

    Warning: Spoilers Ahead, Obviously

Before we knew what hit us the underdog had run up a ridiculously advantageous score reaching match point, only to then falter and be dragged into the last map of the night - where Cure would none the less rise to the occasion one more time, pulling off the upset and securing his first ever appearance in the GSL Code S Final.

    M2 | INnoVation [ 3 : 4 ] Cure | ★★★★☆ | Shattering The Mirror

    • Golden Wall | The full wall that denied the scout, early mining of the blocking minerals to fast expand in an unlikely location and even proxy Starport all made it clear Cure had planned the opening map out to perfection from the start. The following back and forth SCV massacre due to INnoVation's Cloaked Banshees and the underdog's Hellion drop play that eventually turned into Raven harassment made it difficult to be a worker for either side. Ultimately, things clumsily stabilized to a point and then INnoVation made the first real push, which got held off but it did cost his opponent 15 more SCVs, giving the veteran a significant econ lead. The counter push from Cure, however, caught the other Terran sleeping as he lost all his Tanks and so was forced to pull back his third CC in addition to losing even more workers on top of that. From there Cure expanded on the opposite side of the Gold base close to him which was again perfectly part of his plan and he even took a further lead by taking his fourth while his opponent was still busy trying to recover. Cure then simply performed a multi pronged attack that allowed his army to break through and seal the deal, pulling off a truly masterfully executed game one to start the upset.

    • Eternal Empire | The full wall denying the scout was present again and a CC was hid behind it once more, which played out perfectly as a mind game considering everyone's recent proxy shenanigans being so prevalent, with the underdog even getting the faster third CC a bit later. INnoVation didn't look too shook up about it, though, as he went into his Cyclone upgrade and Mech only for his opponent to show up with Cloaked Banshees and go into a different style Mech of his own. The favorite clearly felt extremely comfortable in this scenario, wreaking havoc on the map with his mobile Hellion Cyclone force as he got the lead in upgrades, eventually even getting to both siege and take out his opponent's fourth base due to a key positioning outplay. Cure opted to go into Fusion Core and Battlecruisers accordingly, relying on Tanks to set himself up to absorb the enemy blows and parley that into a win based on efficiency. INnoVation did overextend a few times over the course of the game, however the rate he was expanding at while denying enemy bases was simply insane - at one point going up to virtually 8 bases versus 5 - and thanks to crucial Liberator plays he bought himself enough time to transition into mass Thor supported by a fleet of Ravens, ultimately giving him the superior composition as he disabled virtually every Tank the underdog had in a critical engagement which saw INnoVation come out with a ridiculous supply lead, fully maxed and having a ludicrous bank on top of that, essentially forcing the war of attrition to end ahead of schedule in his favor.

    • Simulacrum | After we finally got a mirrored opening, as we were looking at the Production tab things became a little too similar, so when the same tactic was then also put into play by both players it just came down to whose Reaper Hellion force of destruction would arrive to an empty base first - which turned out to be Cure's army, roasting literally every enemy SCV while having 6 to spare himself as his production pumped out the few units he needed to clean up and once again take the lead in the series.

    • Nightshade | The scout denial wall went up again for Cure, but this time there was no hidden base behind it; in fact, the underdog was going for the fastest realistic push he could while his opponent blindly put down triple CC, an Engineering Bay and even dropped multiple Mules without a care in the world despite his Reaper scout getting denied by a suspicious number of Marines. Needless to say, as INnoVation's Stim still wasn't up while having only Marines to defend with against the teched out enemy assault, the glorified build order loss came in as it should to bring the series to match point.

    • Ever Dream | Finally allowing his opponent to see what's up, Cure went for the fast expand on location, basically daring his opponent to do something about it. INnoVation accepted that challenge as he went for a one base play of his own not too unlike that of the previous game he'd just lost, only to find out the underdog was significantly less greedy than him with their roles reversed and so would hold accordingly. Cure's decision to send a Liberator across the map, his Hellions roasting Marines galore even before they got near his base and even the incredibly defensive and respectful posture he took regardless meant this one was basically over as the Terran Champion's attack crashed and burned. Seeing as there were no more lives INnoVation had, he stayed in the server regardless and went for two CCs to have some semblance of a chance in a longer game as he hunkered down desperately. It was at that point that Cure decided there was too much blood in the water for him not to pounce, so he did so with two Medivacs worth of Marines, which got some work done only to distract him from the harassment damage he was taking at home thanks to a Raven that somehow evened up the worker count. The underdog then went for a Doom Drop play - twice - despite his opponent showing a significant number of Vikings ready and able to deflect it, which ultimately meant the supply lead was simply gone and it was anyone's game after that massive throw. Running into sieged Tanks while getting scanned all over the map, Cure's play devolved further from there and he remained stuck on virtually the same number of bases - even more so after allowing a small army from INnoVation to sneak past him and take out his fifth base along with far too many SCVs - and when the underdog finally ran a full on assault into his opponent's waiting arms exactly while there was an upgrade disadvantage for him, the result was a 50 supply lead which INnoVation had no interest in throwing himself, stabilizing on his side of the map and cleaning up his opponent's last squads of Marines as he tore through the battlefield to secure his comeback.

    • Obsidian | The calm opening basically forced due to the cross spawn positions on the weirdo map made for a pretty stale start with both players virtually completely even as they were establishing their three bases. It was then things suddenly and critically spiraled completely out of control as Cure was failing to poke the sleeping giant, INnoVation simply dropped off some Marines inside his opponent's main and murdered around 20 SCVs or so along with a Tank and everything else that came to stop them including a Starport, basically ending the game out of nowhere after catching the underdog sleeping, resulting in an insurmountable supply lead which Cure agreed with so he tapped out accordingly, taking us into the coveted G7.

    • Zen | The mirrored opening was interrupted only when Cure put down the proxy Starport in a location so obvious yet unscouted despite INnoVation's Reaper being inches away from it after finding out the building was missing from his opponent's main. The veteran then put down his expansion on location anyway, basically showing he was completely unafraid and he looked good doing it as his Reaper Hellion force flanked and killed the enemy harassment squad while a Cyclone dealt with the backdoor Liberator in time to prevent serious bleeding. Cure, now completely behind in pretty much every way, bit down on the metaphorical mouthpiece and tried going into an expansion of his own as he leaned on some Raven harassment to make up the difference, only to see INnoVation literally put down the third CC directly under it, again daring him to do something about it. Not only that, INnoVation while down on army supply sent a Raven across the map to harass and tried landing his third CC on location while his opponent was posturing aggressively on the map with just two bases himself, which was essentially the boiling point as Cure decided he wouldn't take anymore of this showboating, diving into the enemy lines as he disabled every single Tank and killing off 20+ SCVs while also forcing both Command Centers to lift off and hide in the main. From there, even though the supply was close enough, the insurmountable Tank lead and crisp execution from Cure made it so his grip was firm on INnoVation's throat until the end, tightening the noose with every second until the Terran Champion had nowhere left to retreat, forcing the final engagement and winning it in dominant fashion.

After a truly phenomenal start to the series, lets just say the rest didn't live up to the beginning.

    • Map of the Night - it's a toss up between G1 (perfect planning, harassment supreme, constant battles, honestly first great game on Golden Wall this Season) and G2 (Mech vs Mech showcase extraordinaire) which were better than the entire match put together in my eyes; the easy wins on the next two maps, back and forth throws on the fifth, complete nonsense on the second last and finally the nail in the coffin in terms of greed on the seventh weren't particularly to my liking (though obviously in the moment a lot of those were incredibly exciting to watch regardless).

Finally, here are some of my closing thoughts on each player:

    • Cure's planning and execution were initially phenomenal today; in fact, if you had covered up the nameplates, I could have easily been convinced he was the player about to enter his fifth Code S Final. But then as the finish line was in sight - really, lets be real, the Terran had one foot over the finish line - Cure threw to the point we ended up in G7 anyway where he was in a difficult position and without that killer winning move, in large part allowed due to INnoVation's complete misread of the game state, there would be no victory for the underdog here at all despite the perfect start. I'm not sure if reaching the Final after all this time will have a freeing effect on Cure - in which case TY better be ready, at his best the not Jin Air Terran looks like a mechanical beast and his strategy was up there as well - or instead the pressure will crush him completely as it almost did today despite having no extra offline nuisances he would normally need to deal with.

    • INnoVation got severely outplayed for the better part of the series - you could genuinely say the outcome of the games was largely dependent on his opponent win or lose on the majority of the maps played - and only really came out on top in the Mech vs Mech glorious bizarro game; aside from that, taking advantage of an underdog player choking isn't something you can write home about as the clear favorite for taking not only the series but the entire tournament. The undefeated Season that wasn't meant to be and this overall underperformance in the Playoffs have really left a sour taste in my mouth. I think there's definitely a universe in which INnoVation takes this Code S in dominant fashion, I'm not sure why he dropped off this hard after the Ro16 but it's really unfortunate to see considering what we could have had instead. Regardless, when you lose G7 to an underdog from an advantageous position both literally and mentally, all you can do at the end of the day is tip your hat and try to move on.

As always, if you think differently let everyone know why in the comments below.

Catch you on Saturday June 6th for the Final between TY and Cure, where we're going to crown a first time Code S Champion, will it be TY on his third attempt after having semi-retired into a casting role or is it going to be Cure finally overcoming his limitations to breathe in a new era?

Thanks as always for reading & see you when I see you! (:

Only famous players, Top 30 EU, TOP 10 US TOP 50 KOR TOP 2 SEA.

    Everyone plays random.

Only viewers and casters know who's who

    players don't know.

    What do you think ?

    Starcraft 2 Replay Sites

    Posted: 30 May 2020 01:59 PM PDT

Hello, I haven't played the game in a few years and am currently looking for some replays but all of the replay sites from back in the day seem to be dead.

What are some good, up-to-date replay sites where I can find recent replays from pro players/tournaments?

Correct response to ZvP eco Cannon rush at the natural?

    Posted: 30 May 2020 07:56 PM PDT

I can beat generic cannon rushes with Roach/Ravager busting but I don't know how to beat the eco cannon with Hatch first.
I'm told you can do this without pulling drones and I'm not sure how.
