    average age of the playerbase?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 01:36 PM PST

I am a 15 year old who recently got into this game after growing up with a few of the cnc games and qutting fighting games (tekken to be specific) and im really enjoying the depth and complexity of it, but I don't know a single person in my school who plays sc. Most people are into fps games like r6 and cod, or mobas like league of legends, so i dont really have any friends to play with. I cant convince my friends to try it out either, they all say it looks boring despite having never played it.

Is the playerbase mostly legacy players who grew up with the first sc? Or are there secretly a lot of teens that play this game?

New to Starcraft and RTS - how should I approach the campaigns of SC1/2?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 07:42 PM PST

I am pretty new to RTS games, having only dabbled in them and never gotten to a competitive level. Honestly, I'm more drawn to turn based games typically because I tend to suffer from analysis paralysis, but I want to get over that and experience a new genre. Because I'm a bit nervous about real time games, I'm looking for single player experiences at first until I build up my toolkit in a particular game.

I've started playing the Wings of Liberty campaign in SC2, and the writing is really bad (in my opinion, I don't want to insult anyone for liking it). I've read that the writing might be better for Starcraft 1. However, I've also heard that mission design in SC2 is better, and SC2 seems like it has a more active multiplayer scene and the one I'd like to spend more time in overall.

I'm wondering a couple things: is SC1 still recommended? Will skills transfer to SC2? If I play the SC1 campaign and like it, should I just skip SC2 campaign and go straight to multiplayer, or will it be worth it to learn mechanics etc.? Should I play the SC2 campaign missions but just skip the cinematics?

Thanks! Sorry if this is a common thread, I didn't find anything in a perfunctory search.

Edit: Thanks for the insights everyone. From what I gather, the two games offer quite different experiences. I'm leaning toward playing the first campaign, as I feel like it'll make Starcraft 2 a bit easier to understand if I know character backstories and so on. I also feel like I'll enjoy the game more overall (including, possibly, multiplayer in the future) if I understand the world better.

I'm intrigued by the mod and might look into it more, but it could also be interesting to see how the series evolved by playing the older game itself. Kind of on the fence here.

    Starcraft siege tank figure(transformation)

I've made a 3D printer with a Starcraft Siege tank. It's made up of 90 parts. It took about a week. As I am Korean, English is very awkward. Please understand. STL files were obtained from a site called gambody.
I'm uploading a video from my YouTube channel.
    There's a Battle Cruiser video!
    Thank you, guys!

Caliber of the Players - Only Getting Better?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 02:52 PM PST

I have played this game since it came out. I've had some hiatuses, and some on and offs.

I have continued to watch, but since I hit masters I took a bit of a break for ~6 months or so, and I decided to come back and hit the ladder.

God damn, people are so good now. Diamond 2 players feel as good as M3 6 months ago.

Does anyone else feel the same way? Are there any statistics to prove this?

Why are there no evolves arcade games in SC2?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 11:45 PM PST

It used to be a very popular custom game in SC1 and gave me a lot of fun. This didn't transfer to SC2 world. I've seen some evolves maps in the beginning of SC2 era but rarely anyone plates them and they died out.

Streaming real Noob To Masters: WHAT IT REALLY TAKES to beat platinum league?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 10:35 PM PST

Rant/appreciation: As a casual player it's impossible for me to change leagues, but I can compete in division ranks!

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:05 AM PST

I'm random diamond 3 and I play between 20-50 matches a month depending on how much time i find for starcraft. THe MMR gap in my league is 400! That means I need to win about 40 more matches more than i lose. If I only played 200 games in a season, that means I need to have a record of 120-80 to get to diamond 2. That's a 60% win record. That's ludicrous at the non-professional level.

Do I think anything needs to be done? Not really. The game is fun and I don't need to validate my skill with promotions.

Also, I'm #1 in my division! This is SUPER arbitrary, but it makes me feel arbitrarily awesome =P
I'm very grateful blizzard kept this in, even after introducing MMR.
