2v2 partner anyone getting into sc again?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 07:04 PM PST

Anyone want to start playing some 2v2 - I just started playing again and am looking for someone else to come out of retirement with me. I'm like a platinum type player, and only really play Terran.

I'm in Utah so I typically play around 9-11 after the kiddos are in bed and my time zone is MST.

    Is Protoss any good?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 05:45 PM PST

I'm not trying to start a shitshow, sorry if this post comes across that way. I used to play a lot of Protoss back in WoL and had a blast with it, took a long break from SC2, and just returned. AFAIK Protoss appears to be lagging in winrates across the board, and the race feels extremely reactive compared to what it used to. Again, this could 100% just be me not understanding the new metas, but the winrates at least seem pretty compelling.

Every PvT matchup, for instance, it seems like my only chance is to either a) cheese all-in, or b) have very, very good scouting information on what Terran is building and when they're planning on pushing. They can drop mines, drop marine/marauder, push with tank/cyclone/thor/lib/whatever mech play suits them, and if I don't read it perfectly my army just gets annihilated.

And yeah, I can do standard Protoss cheeses, but I feel like the race should really have more in its arsenal than that.

On the flip side, there's not really any Protoss composition that has that kind of versatility. If I go zealot/immortal/archon and they go mech with lib I just die. And even the Protoss counter to that play requires far better micro in response to the Terran push--managing tempests and disruptors together--than the Terran player needs to just seige and unseige. And if they throw some bio in the mix it becomes orders of magnitude harder for me to keep my tempest/disruptor alive, at least in my experience.

Again, I'm not trying to shit on other races or start some "fuck protoss" or "fuck zerg" conversation. But it looks like Protoss has been lagging on the competitive scene since WoL release from this chart: http://aligulac.com/periods/ And my personal experience is that playing them just feels 100% reactive, like I can't take any initiative of my own. I reached diamond with both Zerg and Protoss back in WoL and never really felt that either race was as weak as Protoss feels right now, would I be better off putting my time into practicing Zerg instead of Toss? I don't want to get back into the game and pick the race that's always on its back foot. I'm diamond 3 Toss now and the ladder just feels painful.

Are other modes fun if I don't want to play PVP?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 12:31 AM PST

My RTS experience is mostly from a lego mars game on web browser and a halo wars demo in a store.

I like the PVE aspect of managing your army and watching them fight.

Is StarCraft campaign fun? Or is it a glorified tutorial mode?

    Hardest counter to queens/spore/drone openings?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 11:16 PM PST

So I'm playing a P/T v Z and suppose I know before hand that all my Zerg opponent's gonna do for the first 5-6 minutes of the game is blindly mass queens, build a few spores, drone up. What's the hardest counter to this blind greedy style?

Often when my games start like that I have a hard time punishing this playstyle because any kind of harass is kind of difficult if he pays careful attention with the queen positioning and by the time I can seriously push him he usually already musters a sizable roach/ravager or ling/bane force and I feel like the window for exploitation is closed and now I'm inevitably behind.

The most obvious thing I can think of is playing super greedy by myself. The problem is I feel when I do this is that no matter how many corners I cut if I don't deal damage early I'll be at most even eco-wise by the 6-7 minute mark if not behind. And if he scouts my greed and decides to push/Nydus me before that for whatever reason i'm dead 99% of the time.

Lately with Terran i've had some success with early bcs into turtle mech into mass bcs but it's such a passive playstyle it's like we are both playing by ourselves. Often these games are just nothing happens for 20+ minutes and then somebody wins.

I feel like my problem in this matchup (XvZ) is also a mental one. It's like I feel behind the moment the game starts and then when I inevitably lose I feel like the reason is obviously that I was behind the entire game.

It would be nice if there was a unit that could be an effective counter to Queens. Something that if I build it the Zerg will have to respect it. Honestly it's kind of ridiculous but I feel like early BC's are the only thing I can go for that actually makes the Zerg afraid. And the answer to that is usually "moar queens" and a spire (not saying it's easy to hold off early BC's, it looks really difficult tbh). So massing early queens is actually not bad against this style.

So, what's the hardest counter to mass Queens/Spores/Drones? Any ideas?

Greetings. I recently decided to dive into Starcraft 2 after watching a couple of streams.

Problem is that the Versus and Coop maps just wont download.

It will usually show a random percentage and if i hover of it it will have a 0/0 KB.

Any ideas? I already tried fixing the game through Battle Net but it didnt work
