Co-Op Map Idea: Flight of Fear Posted: 16 Nov 2019 04:57 PM PST Amon's forces have begun an attack on a Dominion colony. The forces are overwhelming the planet, and an evacuation is needed. Only through the forces of two Commanders can the colonists safely evacuate to the spaceport and get off the planet. -Based off of the first Ariel Hanson Mission. -Players will have to defend the transports as it can take an array of different paths through the forest and to the spaceport from the base. As time wittles down, multiple colonist transports may launch at once. -The Spaceport can also be attacked, and will need to be defended. If you lose the spaceport, you lose the game. And that is the basic description. To go into detail, the routes the trucks can take would be able to be randomized, making it less predictable on where it might launch from, or what path it will take. Some paths even intersect, so just because it starts off on the right, does not mean it will stay on the right. The mission will require to protect the objective both in transport, and the evac zone, and eventually will have multiple trucks trying to evac at once, taking various randomized routes. This will allow for lots of replayability, and will also provide quite a bit of difficulty of needing to defend both a mobile and stationary target, sometimes at the same time. The enemy might build defenses upon the roads as well, so if your not careful, things can get really hairy really quickly. Be ready to counter their attempts to bar your way. As for a bonus objective, that would be rescuing stranded squads of Dominion Marines. Saving them results in them getting on board they own medivac, and saying that they will help clear other areas and look for more survivors elsewhere to help evac (outside the map, of course). Anyways, this is my Co-Op Map idea. Hope you like it! [link] [comments]
So My Beta Blizz Launcher updated and... Posted: 17 Nov 2019 12:35 AM PST And all the fucking "visibility" settings for all the games got reset. Welcome back CoD:MW2, WoW, D3 (none of which I own or have installed), Hearthstone, Heroes, and WarCraft III (which I guess I own but do not have installed), and byebye SC:R, SC, SC2. The big fuck you here (we getting used to that eh?) is that they freaking updated this shit, and AGAIN (I have to assume, intentionally) kept the default visibility for SC2 off. Despite being aware that our community found this snub insulting and unnecessary. Even if you own the game. Even if you have the game installed. Even if you paid money to buy the game before F2P. Could it really have been that hard for them to tell an intern to fix the defaults JSON file at the very least, if not respect the user's purchases, or just preserve people's preferences between updates? Introducing Zephyrus: A New Replay Analysis Website Posted: 16 Nov 2019 11:57 AM PST Hey guys, this is something I've been working on for a little while now and it's finally gotten to a point where I think it's worth sharing with the community. I've always been interested in data relating to SC2 and I also believe there's more nuance to the game than most players let on, so those were my main motivations to create the site. There are 2 parts to Zephyrus, the replay parser and the site. The ParserFor those of you who don't know, Blizzard has an official parser which allows you to extract raw data from replay files. It doesn't, however, provide an easy way to extract information from the raw data. All the high level parsers that did exist are pretty ancient now, so I wrote a new one from scratch with a strong focus on preserving gamestate and extensibility. At the moment it's nothing too different to what currently exists, but in future I want to add support for things like vision, camera position, ability usage and more calculated stats. In future I want to open source the parser :). The WebsiteAt the moment you can upload replays and analyse them using the timeline and game stats as well as track your performance on a week to week basis.
The timeline has everything you're used to plus more, and the same goes with the game stats and performance tracking. At the moment only 1v1 ranked games (Unranked as well I think) are supported and the website is not mobile compatible (Who's doing replay analysis on their phone??). I'd like to stress that it's early stage. There are some bugs/issues and missing features and I'm not a designer lol, but over time it'll improve. Feel free to give me any feedback or make suggestions for changes. FeaturesMain Features:

Fanon explanations for Nov 14 balance patch update Posted: 16 Nov 2019 01:26 PM PST Terran: Emperor Valerian Mengsk, in his effort to crack down on the corruption of the Terran Confederacy and Arcturus Mengsk's Dominion, has broken up the oil and gas oligarchies. Hellions and hellbats can now have a cheaper blue flame on the new Dominion's dime. There are also rumors that hellion and hellbat pilots have started adding a bit of beer and whiskey to their plasma containers in celebration of Valerian's triumph over Carolina Davis, which might also explain the decline in blue flame costs. Emperor Valerian has also taken his advisors' counsel, and has redesigned the guns for the Thor, trading off firepower for more rapid fire. Matthew Horner believed this change will work for the better. Rory Swann intensely disagreed, claiming that it ruined the shock and awe the mech monster was supposed to bring, but reluctantly helped in refitting a Thor for prototyping and testing. Time will tell if this change proves significant on the battlefield, especially against brood lords and tempests. Emperor Valerian, perhaps wanting to make his own mark on his Dominion forces, has also done much to reorganize the way that the Terran tech tree operates, shifting over various project teams to the fusion core research program. At first glance, it seemed as though they were put off to the side, not meant to be used. The Terran populace was immensely distraught. However, Valerian explained to them that the fusion core research program had grown surprisingly popular a year ago or so, and that putting the project teams under the fusion core research program reduced both overhead cost and encouraged increased inter-team participation and collaboration. Emperor Valerian has also expressed his desire to make significant changes in terms of maintenance and long-term sustainability, and using that money for government welfare funds and programs. In this light, the decrease of the liberator range, the battlecruiser efficiency re-allocation, the mule efficiency increase, and increasing energy storage required to produce an interference matrix are part of his larger political aims. Zerg: Zagara, Queen of the Swarm, has had to make several cutbacks due to decreased conflict post-Second Great War. There are rumors that Abathur is attempting to overthrow the Swarm and become its new King. He has the motive and the means to make it happen. But for now, these rumors are merely rumors. However, two interesting changes that has the Koprulu Sector talking for the past month is the nydus network and infestor. The nydus network has a terrifying ability to almost instantly transport zerg hit squads and armies hundreds of miles. Unfortunately for the zerg, increased use of the nydus network recently has accelerated their aging, leading to longer boring times. The infestor has also been talked about intensely in Terran, Protoss, and Zerg circles. Recent field reports by Dominion ravens and Protoss observers (both Dae'lam and Tal'darim) suggest that infestors (and in turn the Swarm) have finally run out of their infested terrans. During the Second Great War, infestors assimilated any innocent terran into their race. Today, however, the Zerg are in a binding contract (forged by the then-Queen of Blades, Valerian Mengsk, and Artanis) to not infest any more humans. Their supply of infested terrans, of which some thought to be in the tens if not hundreds of billions Unfortunately, Zagara herself declined to comment. This reporter was chased out the royal hive by lings, banes, and hydras. Coming up next: Top Ten Terran analysts discuss changing patterns of creep spread! Protoss: The enigmatic Protoss have also been significantly impacted by the outcome of the Second Great War. It has been long known that certain Protoss ship pilots, commanders, and AIs, have noticed that certain movements and positions of ships increased the effectiveness of their laser-based weapons. Although this has been tolerated in the Second Great War out of necessity, Artanis and his advisors have given strict orders to not execute these movements and positions in order to increase the longevity of their forces. At the annual Twlight Council meeting, representatives from all the former Protoss factions have agreed to retrain their soldiers. Due to the decreasing conflict, the majority of them have agreed to train their zealots and adepts to use speed to out-run as well as ambush their foes, and have been given cybernetic enhancements and weapons to further encourage and assist zealots and adepts in this task. To Terrans, this reminds them of the ninja of the days of old. However, certain factions believe that zealots should continue to be a front-line dispenser of foes. The maximum allowable observer speed has also been decreased across the board. This is likely due to the fact that the average observer is 500 years old, and most have been out in the cold, harsh environment of interstellar space for centuries. Despite the cutbacks in some areas, there have been reallocations and increased emphasis on certain ship classes. Protoss researchers that have been studying the effects of tempests on their pilots have reported that the longer the firing range, the more physical pain tempest pilots feel (in spite of their suits being made to counter this in the first place). As a result, tempests now use less psionic power overall, slightly decreasing their range and shields. In compensation, tempest pilots have been given even thicker suits to withstand the enormous strain the ships put on their bodies. The void ray, at first poised to become the dominant ship class in Protoss armies, still pales in popularity to tempests and carriers on the battlefield. After considerable thought and discusion, Artanis has mandated void ray captains to bring in their void rays and fine-tune their prism cores to allow them to generate flux vanes, dramatically increasing their speed. Protoss motherships have also been given the green light to more effectively utilize the power within their Khaydarin crystals, generating significantly more potent time warps. This was also accompanied by a new requirement stating that protosses must now have a level 3 or higher rating against mind control to be allowed inside a mothership. Last, but certainly not least, there was a memorial at the Council for a zealot named InControl, who died in single combat against the very last hybrid (but not without first killing the hybrid in question) in the remote reaches of the Koprulu Sector, far away from Aiur. His sacrifice was and will continue to be remembered by all the Zerg, Terran, and Protoss. [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Nov 2019 05:57 PM PST More than half of the screenshots resemble the version from the original gameplay demonstration. One of the screenshots, the last one, appears to have Reavers in it, which weren't even included in the final game. The strangest thing to me is that there are screenshots from HotS, LotV, and Nova Covert Ops on the same page. If they were still adding screenshots to that page many years after the first ones, why not take down the old ones and put up more that reflect the actual content of the game? [link] [comments]

Starcraft 1 dialogues question Posted: 16 Nov 2019 10:59 PM PST In Starcraft 1, before each mission you get to listen to multiple main characters talk to each other in a pre mission screen. This usually sets up what your goal for the mission is. After replaying some of the game though I had a question about these preludes lore wise. How do these characters actually talk to one another here? I assume it's different for each race but it seems clear they aren't actually near each other in person. Tassadar for example couldn't see that Fenix was in a dragoon. We even see in a sc2 cinematic raynor begging mengsk to save Sarah through a monitor. So I assume for terrans they might have some group video call or something like that. How do the Zerg and Protoss communicate together though? Is it just telepathy? [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Nov 2019 03:57 AM PST And because i'm too lazy to prove it to you with a video, you have to do the check-up yourself on a balance test map. Since the mineral patches vary in distance to the Command Center, you have patches in a mineral line that are closer and farther away. -Drop a mule onto the closest patch and you mine 225 minerals, as intended. -Drop a mule onto the farthest patch and you only mine 200 minerals, not as intended. On top of that the mule, that was mining from the farthest patch, expires afterwards while holding 25 minerals. This alone makes this change completley absurd, since this was the main idea behind this change. I guess no one has ever testet this. So please, test it yourself. For example on Triton, drop a mule onto one of the two patches in the middle and you see the outcome. Bottom line is, this change has to be reverted. I hope before homestory cup...
