    LEGO Banshee, Potentially Unused.

I made this banshee but made it too bulky. Figured I might as well post it to reddit while I make a redesign.

    I need a starcaft universe action-rpg game.

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 11:19 PM PDT

    I dunno maybe something like...

    1) A survival horror game ala-RE2 Remake where you are trying to survive thru a zerg infestation in your planet before its inevitable protoss purification.

    2) Or a third person shooter type ala-Mass Effect where you're a ghost operative and you manage your build and loadout for all sorts of missions, and also get to travel around the galaxy.

    3) Or some souls-like game where you're a zealot/templar on the front lines of purifying the zerg infestation, or whatever terran effort that gets in the way.

    4) Or just let me be some evolving zerg creature going on a rampage on some open-world terran or protoss cityscape.

I guess I am just starved and I need more starcraft lore, stories, and immersion in its already amazing universe. Stories don't have to be on an intergalactic plot level all the time, so smaller story beats would even be great.

Quarantine Star League #1 (Starcraft Remastered)

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 08:27 PM PDT

    Hey all,

After watching the Smash Bros. community come together through hosting online tournaments, I've decided to try to do the same.

    Quarantine Star League

This is a tournament for all players who don't currently live in Korea. In the future I would like to split it into rank categories (i.e. F-C, B-S) but this first one will be combined.

    Rules:

Maps will be selected from the following: Neo Sylphid, Escalade, Inner Coven, Polypoid, and Match Point ( https://liquipedia.net/starcraft/2020_Afreeca_Starleague_Season_9 )

The map will be chosen in a 1-2-1 banning system in best of one's. In best of 3's, the first map will be chosen 1-2-1, then the winner of the previous game bans 2 maps and the loser picks out of the remaining 3 maps.

All matches will be best of one until round of 4, the rest are best of 3. This is to squeeze the whole tournament into a couple of hours.

As this is the first one be patient and I'm always open to feedback.

    ZvP win rates since HSC

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 12:27 PM PDT

We all saw the posts that only 3 Protoss qualified for RO16 and 0 Protoss qualified for RO8 at HSC.

At HSC the win rate of ZvP was 11:3 (21% wins for Protoss, 79% for Zerg). The only ZvP that Zerg lost were Showtime vs True, Mana vs True and Goblin vs Denver.

But maybe HSC was just an outlier?

I looked at the tournament games played since then in Wardi's tournaments, GSL & Kungfu Cup which are the most prestigious tournaments going on right now. Of course just GSL is a major tournament, but since there's no WCS that's all that Pro's have right now and everyone except Serral is participating.

In those 3 tournaments, Protoss yet again is down 11:4 vs Zerg (27% winrate for Protoss, 73% for Zerg). The only Zergs that lost a ZvP were Showtime vs Denver, Zest vs DRG, Patience vs Armani and Stats vs Ragnarok.

I can't recall the game ever been so imbalanced. In these stats included are games from all the best Protoss in the world including Korea: Stats, Zest, Parting and WCS: Showtime, Neeb, Mana, Harstem who managed to win less than 25% of their series vs Zerg.

If Solar beats Stats, who is supposed to challenge Dark & Rogue? If Elazer beats Showtime, and TLO beats Harstem, who is supposed to challenge Reynor & Serral? It's just inconceivable that a Protoss could win anything right now.

Honestly SC2 as a professional esports is not really viable with this state of balance. It's so frustrating to watch ZvP. Blizzard PLEASE do something before the year is over and Protoss has won like 1 tournament of 20 again like last year. It's honestly on track to be even worse.

    HOTS Campaign Is Freaking Amazing

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 06:34 AM PDT

Stay-at-home order has got me replaying the SC2 campaigns and I gotta say, while I love all three, I think HOTS stands out as an absolute masterpiece. I find Kerrigan to be such a compelling character, and her character arc is tragic and so well constructed. I love the exploration of her identity and just how human she really is. I love the irony that we are looking into the heart of these violent creatures who we expect to just be mindless killers. I love Abathur. Each cutscene is beautiful and emotionally gripping. After her transformation, using Kerrigan's character in mission feels like a total badass as she easily rips armies apart. And of course, the finale is completely gratifying, delivering a payoff we've been hoping for since SC1 days. Big fan, huge fan.

    GSL Code S 2020 S1 | Ro24 | Group C | Rundown

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 05:09 AM PDT

Just a little late, since I slept in & will continue to do so on Saturdays - sue me - lets take a look at what went on in today's GSL.

    Group C:

    • Living Legend and clear favorite & one of the greatest GSL players of all time: Zest

    • Challengers i.e. the talented players yet to truly deliver: Cure, Impact

    • Days of Future Past, the once upon a time Champion: DRG

Unlike with our first two Groups, this one felt a little more open since you could realistically only bank on Zest to make it out no matter what - granted, his nemesis Impact being here was a slightly dangerous prospect - but when it came to determining who would be the second one to get out it was almost anyone's guess with Cure being the ultimate example of someone who fails to deliver no matter how many times you think they're getting it together and DRG slowly and steadily building his strength back up, which seeing as he's a former Code S Champion should be concerning to players who've never even gotten close to such an achievement.

    Warning: Spoilers Ahead, Obviously

Zest definitely had a few squirrely moments today, nevertheless by the end of his run there could be no doubt who the top dog was as he comfortably secured 1st place after ramping up his play with every game.

What should have been a hotly contested 2nd spot after that turned into an utter beatdown as Cure tore through his Zerg opponent in the rematch, looking significantly better with each consecutive game over the day as well.

    M1 | Zest [ 2 : 0 ] DRG | ★★☆☆☆ | Smooth Destruction

    • Eternal Empire | Zest's failed block on the expansion didn't faze him at all as the Protoss built his own early Nexus and just went into the light Adept and Oracle pressure later as he was taking his third. DRG on the other hand went for a pretty optimistic Spire pretty much as he was getting pushed in on his fourth base by Zest's relatively flimsy army of just a few Immortals and Archons with low numbers of Gateway support, yet the Protoss got the kill on the expansion all the same. From there the Zerg was pretty much stuck with his Lair tech, so he built a flock of Mutas that actually got a ridiculous number of Probe kills even though Zest was supposed to be prepared for it; in any case Blink, Storm and Archons made the Protoss army vastly superior so when it marched across the map and forced DRG to fight it was a pretty one-sided exchange and Zest finished him off accordingly.

    • Ever Dream | After a successful Hatch block this time Zest decided it was DT o'clock, unfortunately for him the dastardly plan got scouted pretty early by DRG, yet his defense wasn't good enough all the same as he basically lost 7 Drones and 2 Queens for only a few Adepts while Dark Templar ran around wreaking havoc before turning into Archons and beginning the nightmare-fuel drop harassment. By the time Zest did the first real attack he was already taking his third base and was even ahead in army supply against Roaches, meaning the game was completely over.

    M2 | Cure [ 2 : 0 ] Impact | ★★☆☆☆ | Game of Throws

    • Eternal Empire | Although it's inarguable Cure was inflicting serious pain from start to finish in this game, every time he harassed the Terran was losing units - it honestly almost looked like he didn't care enough to even try to save them, regardless if it was Reapers, Hellions or Banshees - yet when it came time to push on the 4th Hatch he got the cancel all the same & even a counter attack on his own third base wasn't enough to make a dent in Cure's macro, not to mention the fact there was literally no creep spread at all due to the pressure put on by the Terran. The game should have honestly been completely over from there and although Cure had 3/3 upgrades vs 1/2, meaning the Zerg shouldn't even have a snowball's chance in hell to stay in the server, some truly terrible control and/or attention mismanagement from the Terran resulted in painfully prolonging this map, to the point where you would start to question if it was possible for Impact to come back, however at the end of the day it was still a game of numbers and you're not beating anyone with unupgraded Ling Muta no matter how many fights they throw.

    • Zen | The nifty bunker block on Impact's intended third base and the Reaper play around it was a lot more clean than the ending to the previous map & it even seemingly forced the Zerg to go for a fast Lair in order to try compensating for the delay by getting Mutas out unexpectedly. Unfortunately for him Cure got to somehow scout the entire thing thanks to a diligent Reaper, which is why it was shocking when Impact still tore through the Terran defenses as if his opponent didn't know what was coming, picking off SCVs, Marines and Tanks alike, which ultimately turned out to be a lot of wasted effort as the Zerg once again forgot a game-deciding upgrade in +1 attack this time, making it so despite Cure's repeatedly terrible control with his main army the insurmountable difference in upgrades ended up sealing Impact's fate, since no amount of good engagements will ever overcome Math.

    M3 | Zest [ 2 : 1 ] Cure | ★★★☆☆ | Who Da Best

    • Eternal Empire | The no-rush-to-7-minutes gameplay was going as straightforward as you would expect here and then all hell broke loose as Cure attacked both the natural and third expansions at the same time, pulling Zest apart and getting 20 Probe kills, basically making the two base timing pay off in spades. The immediate tech up into Ghosts after that was completely on point to handle the Protoss attempt to stabilize with Templar and thanks to a huge Raven play around 11:30 where the Terran not only Cheeto-ed almost the entire enemy army, he then disabled the Warp Prism with most of the Templar still in it and as a result took a monstrous engagement to end the game then and there.

    • Nightshade | From kind of getting your DT rush scouted to the jig being completely up, the writing for the upset was on the wall as Cure looked to close things out after getting 12 Probe kills with just a simple Mine drop, making up for all the DT damage and early game pressure. Quick thinking, however, is Zest's forte meaning even though things were going terribly the Protoss had already taken his 3rd Nexus and started a Robo Bay - as if nothing had gone wrong, showing some Champion mentality right there - with the actual winning move definitely being when Zest walked out in the middle of the map with his couple of Colossi and Sentries to stop the incoming Terran finishing move, picking off SCVs and army alike to buy himself enough time in order to comfortably hold the unnecessary and predictable all in from his opponent.

    • Simulacrum | It was then early Blink Stalker o'clock and although it didn't really accomplish much the followup Warp Prism with just a few Charge Zealots in it ended up costing Cure more than he could afford. The actual Terran push itself came pretty much on time, although due to the harassment back at home more than a few units had to stay behind, allowing Zest to handily hold the push on his expansion thanks to Immortals and Sentries, meaning Cure's attack failed and he was stuck on pretty much two bases. The attempt to tech up to Ghosts and repeat what happened in their initial game was reasonable enough, however the Protoss wanted nothing to do with that, charging across the map with 5 Immortals, which allowed Zest to brute force his way through the relatively flimsy Terran defense, securing the win in merciless fashion.

    M4 | Impact [ 2 : 1 ] DRG | ★★☆☆☆ | So Close, Yet So Far

    • Ever Dream | The surprisingly mirrored three Hatch opening, transition into Ling Bane and out of it to get Roaches up was certainly not what we all expected heading into this game. Both players got up to a ridiculous number of bases and funnily enough it was actually DRG getting the better of his opponent for the majority of the game, killing more workers and bases through a number of crucial counter attacks, letting the old master get a significant leg up in econ due to his efficiency. Although it's true Impact's efforts resulted in what eventually looked like a terrifying lategame army, DRG's relentless pressure literally made his opponent crumble as he picked off units Impact couldn't afford to replace one by one until the bitter end.

    • Nightshade | The shockingly similar opening to the previous game was mind boggling as we looked to be heading to a complete repeat of our previous map, however it was DRG who decided to mix things up slightly by going for an early Roach Ling attack that although got him close to the win, ultimately wasn't enough due to the defender's advantage and Impact having slightly more workers throughout the course of the fight. From there the Zerg master did do his best to come back via some cool snipes and even a Spire, but it did get scouted and his followup attack got held comfortably, allowing Impact to secure the map after a few questionable engagements gave the Zerg a 40+ supply lead.

    • Zen | The most predictable 12 pool of the season and drone pull to go with it from Impact should have been held by DRG, if only he hadn't decided to go Hatch Gas first. There's a reason it's called a build order win and although I'm sure many of us will be bitter due to the incredible attempt at a hold regardless of the circumstances, it really was an uphill battle the former Champion was never going to win here after those terribly misaligned openings.

    M5 | Cure [ 2 : 0 ] Impact | ★★☆☆☆ | Obliterated

    • Nightshade | The early Hellion Banshee harassment here and overall feel of the game was the same as the previous series, but Impact had seemingly leveled up as he not only started both of his upgrades at the same time, he even managed to sneak in some Lings inside his opponent's base causing chaos ahead of schedule. Cure, however, didn't seem remotely interested in crumbling so when he arrived at the 4th Hatch it only took a few hard fights before he toppled it over, earning himself a significant macro lead. Impact tried taking his expansion in a new location, but that backfired hard as the Terran set up perfectly and wiped the Zerg forces so efficiently there that by the end of the fight he was up over 40 supply, meaning the game was just done.

    • Purity & Industry | For a while on this map it looked like we'd entered some sort of bizarro world as Cure pushed early with a few Marines and a single Mine, while Impact made a few Roaches and suicided them into a bunch of waiting Infantry and Tanks to open the game. Before we got to see the universe fully unravel, though, the Terran decided to cut things short by loading up a few Medivacs with his entire army and dropping them off inside the Zerg's main to end the series ahead of schedule. Not only did Cure end up killing the Lair, he even took out the Spire and actually managed to send reinforcements to his unbreakable position behind the minerals before Impact could get remotely close to cleaning it all up, at which point the Zerg decided it was time to call it a day and head out of the studio accordingly.

All in all, not a bad day of Code S, although I do admit the results might have gone a little too predictably in terms of the expected players coming out on top in every match.

    • Match of the Night - pretty much has to be M3 for me, Cure played a phenomenal G1, forcing Zest to level up in order to take back control, not much more you can ask for & really glad the Protoss Champion stepped up his play to show him who's boss (or best, if you will).

Finally, here are some of my closing thoughts on each player:

    • Zest might have had some of us worried in single moments throughout the night, but overall really showed why he was the favorite heading into today. This certainly wasn't peak performance from him however it's inarguable that's next to irrelevant when you know how many times the guy's gone deep in this tournament, Ro32/Ro24 might as well be warmup games to the Protoss Champion, I fully expect him to keep leveling up as we get into the thick of things moving forward.

    • Cure had a pretty terrible opening match - which he still won 2-0, mind you - but from there he almost stole 1st place, not to mention the devastating closing match he put on. This might be a sign of things to come, if Cure keeps ramping up he could turn into quite an exciting player, unfortunately history says otherwise. In any case, you never know when someone will break through their perceived ceiling, so lets see if coming out of the eclipse-sized Jin Air shadow is going to do wonders for this prospect.

    • Impact had it rough today, considering he made some amateurish mistakes to lose against an initially vulnerable Cure, then even got dangerously close to getting knocked out by DRG, only to finally completely fall apart in the rematch with the Terran. It's been a really long time since we've seen this Zerg truly have an impact on the competitive scene and I feel like that's partially due to an identity crisis almost on TRUE's level, so hopefully he resolves that for future tournaments, otherwise I see what happened today happening many more times.

    • DRG honestly didn't look bad, however he still needs a little more juice to get fully back on track. Lets put it this way, everyone agreed he wasn't beating Zest in this universe, however it did feel disappointing when he lost to Impact's predictable G3 cheese. Maybe it was because of the ridiculously close hold in an impossible situation, but I really wanted to see what he could do in the ZvT next and although Cure would have likely beaten him too it's still DRG in that matchup - the prospect of some vanilla Ling Bane Muta from a former true master was really exciting, alas wasn't meant to be.

As always, if you think differently let everyone know why in the comments below.

Catch you on Wednesday for Group D, where PartinG and RagnaroK will do their best to prove there's a level difference between them and the scrappy opposition in Creator & Dream.

Thanks as always for reading & see you when I see you! (:

does SC2 run better on nvidia or amd?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 07:47 PM PDT

i heard that sc2 runs better on nvidia compared to radeon. is this still true? or was that only back in the day when we had hd6870 and gtx 560 competing with each other?
i am asking because i am comparing buying used a gtx 680 or 780 vs a r9 290x or something else around that price range. the 680 will be cheaper by a little bit but wondering if the extra hp of the r9 290x can keep me with high fps during late team games on ultra graphics with 1080p
