Further insight into ESL Pro Tour Point inclusion

    Posted: 22 Apr 2020 10:51 AM PDT

Firstly, fuck yeah that TSL is back, I remember casting TSL4! On that note & with the news today that TSL will include ESL Pro Tour points, I thought this a good time to make another post around the ESL Pro Tour and more specifically on the values we put behind decisions for inclusion within the EPT system. I've highlighted a few main categories to provide insight into the logic behind our thinking.

    Tournament formatting
Firstly, it's important that tournaments follow the most updated competitive formatting & playing conditions i.e. latest map pool, ideally offline play to prevent cross server play and items such as using a standard boX setting (a full tournament w/ bo1's doesn't work) etc. The ESL Pro Tour is meant to represent the highest level of competition & prestige, so respect to the tournament is critical.

    Open ecosystem
We prioritize inclusion by providing opportunity for all players around the world to compete within the ESL Pro Tour (I know you will call out region lock here and as I've mentioned before we will review for the 2021/2022 season). This is typically reflected in the regional representation for qualification & how open qualification is a must. We also want our tournaments to be represented by qualified players being in the majority. On that note, we are okay with tournaments having a selection of invited players but there needs to be a system behind the invite structure, ideally from the EPT ranking system (you can't just invite your friend into a tournament that awards points).

    Recent times & further inclusion
I've referenced this in my last posting that we are relaxing rules around tournament formatting & ideal playing conditions to adapt to more recent times in an attempt to keep the EPT the center of competition. Typically EPT point allocation to online competition is incredibly rare because of the advantages/disadvantages cross server play generates however we are opening up to this. With that said, you will see our stance reflected in the amount of points online cross regional competitions receive in comparison to offline events.

I hope this gives more transparency on how we are operating behind the scenes. We are always open to work with other tournament organizers but please understand there are also others pieces than what's written above above that need to fit the puzzle in order to make everything click.

As you know overall we want to remain fair, consistent but also transparent and flexible while working together as part of the community. I mean, I've been in SC2 for over 10years, only seems right.

    Wings of Liberty Protoss Edition

    Posted: 22 Apr 2020 01:35 PM PDT

Hi! I've just finished a project I've been working on for some time: Wings of Liberty Protoss Edition. As you might have guessed, it's a modification of WoL in which you play as the protoss, complete with unit variants, Spear of Adun abilities and voice lines from Legacy of the Void.

It's available to play on the arcade right now, even if you have the free version of SC2.

    Any feedback is appreciated!

One of my first few games fresh into the ladder I was playing against a bc heavy army in tvt.

I went mass banshee with cloak and waited for him to warp into my base without realising that they don't attack air units.

I assumed they were just like sc1 wraiths. Lol.

Please consider signing up, even as low level player, to show Red Bull how awesome and engaged the sc2 community still is!

Last month Protoss had the worst performance of any race ever in 10 year SC2 history

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 04:41 AM PDT

We already know that Protoss has been the worst performing race for every single month for the past 2 years, without breaking this sad streak for any single month.

Protoss has also NOT been the leading race for any single month since 5 years.

This is quite surprising given how many nerfs Protoss received the past 2 years, but it explains the sad state Protoss is in right now. See here: http://aligulac.com/periods/

So what's new and how could it get any worse than this? Well read on!

What does the leading/lagging number mean? Aligulac creates an "average" player of each race, based on the top 5 performing players of each race. It simulates an infinite amount of games that these three players play against each other. If the game is perfectly balanced, each "average" player will win 50% of the games and the lagging/leading indicator is 0%. The more it deviates from 50%/50% the higher the lagging/leading indicator.

Currently for Protoss the lagging indicator is at 22%, meaning that on average the best Protoss players in the world have a 28% win chance against the best Zerg & Terran players in the world.

Never in the 10 year history of SC2 was a lagging indicator above 20%, but Protoss was above 20% each 2-week period in Aligulac for the past 4 periods, with the last one hitting a new all-time high of 22%.

Awesome! This is fine for a competitive e-sports with professional players.

    • Inb4 "Lol the over 15,000 games this was based on are not statistically representative - you are just cherrypicking from the small pool of... every pro game played in the last 4 months"
    • Inb4 "But Neeb won 16 months ago the WCS Winter North America finals against JonSnow, so Protoss CAN win big tournaments"
    • Inb4 "But Zest memed his way into the finals at IEM Kattowice with a new build that no one had seen, and even though everyone can defend it in their sleep now, and Zest lost 2 weeks later against Namshar and Elazer, this still shows Protoss can consistently perform at a high level"

Hi, beginner here, just for fun, does anyone have a all in super aggressive rush build? Thought it be fun to see if I can end some games quickly. I mostly play Terran or Zerg right now. Thanks.
