    There is no break in the hype train! IEM Katowice is just around the corner but that doesn't mean we will stop with the Open Cups! Join the fight, score those 10/5 EPT Global Points and rank up!

    Here is what you need to know:

    Important information for all competitors:

    FORMAT:

    • Early rounds until Ro4 are Bo3;
    • Finals are Bo5.

    Where you can watch?

    You can find an extensive list of casters that will cover the ESL Open Cups on the following url: https://play.eslgaming.com/starcraft/global/coverage

    Quick Rules:

    • Be at least 20 minutes early to sign up for the tournament.
    • Join ESL chat channel on the respective server so you can find your opponents for the games.

    NOTE: You just have to type this on the chatbox: "*/join ESL *". That is it, no event chat channel, nothing, only the regular ESL chat channel.

    Inspired by sc2calc.org, I made a web app soulofkorhal.com for calculating and creating build orders. That brilliant sc2calc is not supporting LOTV so I made one on my own. It' a project for fun and currently Terran-only. I would be extremely happy if it can help any of my Terran brothers. The app is not mobile-friendly, please open it on your laptop or desktop.

    Soul of Korhal provides:

    • Build Order Calculator - Given a sequence of actions, it runs the game simulation and calculates the optimal timing. The formatted build order and the simulated game data will be shown.
    • Build Order Maker - It shows the essential data of the current game state (minerals, gas, supply, minerals income, etc). By choosing one of the legal actions, the game progresses and the state transits to another. You can create your build order and see how the game goes without starting an actual game.

    Advice for attending Dreamhack Dallas

    Hi all!

    In light of WCS getting canceled, I became very aware of the mortality of StarCraft II eSports...and so I've decided I'm going to attend my first pro tournament ever at Dreamhack Dallas this May. I'm very excited!

    Any advice for a first-time tournament goer, like myself? What kinds of things should I think about preparing beforehand?

    Is Starcraft Still Free to Download?

    UPDATE: Problem solved! I got it to download! Thanks everybody!

    I just learned about the original Starcraft being free to download so I went to the Blizzard site to get a copy.

    Unfortunately, for some reason the EXE would only download up to about 1Mb before it would restart back to 0 bytes.

    I'm using Chrome to do this and so far it has been an endless loop. Did Blizzard stop offering the game for free or is there something I have to change in my browser's setting to allow the download to continue?

    Firstly, I wanted to give a huge thanks to you all for your interest in my IEM Katowice Attendee Guide.

    As the event is about to start in a few days, I've been allowed by a moderator u/BoB_KiLLeR to repost the guide.

    Compared to the original version, there's a update as for the venue entrance - as it turned out, I've missed out that the SC2 Premium ticket entrance gate was different last year, and now the guide should lead you to the right one.

    Extremely uneven matchups?

    I am D2 so obviously pro level balance does not affect me. But my matchups are extremely uneven. I play mech in all matchups.

    In TvZ I win 65+% of my games. Basically, I find TvZ really easy – the only hard part is when someone is good with vipers but that is very rare in Diamond. The matchup feels boring to me because there is no challenge. Also, if I lose, I can always pinpoint exactly what I should have done differently.

    TvP is hell. My win rate is never above 35%. It feels like Protoss is at advantage at every stage of the game. Protoss can take his 3rd faster than you while still attacking you at the same time, you have to fight for your life just to be able to take your 3rd.

    Even though my macro is good for my level and I almost always win late game in TvT and TvZ I can never win in late game in TvP. Maybe if Protoss leaves me alone for 10 minutes so I can get my BC count up, but not in a real game against a competent opponent.

    TvT feels ok. The matchup is hard but fair, it is very easy to make a single mistake that will cost you the game but at least you can figure out what you should do differently.

    Is there a single Terran in my level that actually find TvZ hard and TvP easy? Any Terran I encountered with a good win rate in TvP often do some kind of all-in and I refuse to do all-ins because I find those really boring.

    Since 2018, no player has a winning record in games or series against Serral

    Note: I consider a series a best of 3 or greater.

    The best record against Serral is Maru, shockingly. They have played against each other three times since 2018, GSL vs the World 2018, IEM Season XII EU Qualifier and WESG 2017. The game record is 3-3 and the series record is 1-1 (GSL was bo1). Although I imagine most would agree the WESG win by Maru is the most impressive, it still makes the win rate 50%.

    If you're curious if this stat holds true for Maru, I found at least one player has a winning record against him by game count, sOs. There may be more but I haven't checked. Edit: found at least one more, TY. 12-9 game count, 3-1 series count.
