    Hi there. I know there's a lot of rage in the ladder, and a lot of energy is lost telling your opponent he should be murdered by angry baboons, but how much exactly is your rage fueled ladder experience contributing to global warming? This is a question I aim to answer here.

    Let's consider a couple of facts, for the sake of ease of calculation:

    • An average mid-range gaming PC consumes around 440 Wh [1]
    • The US average electricity source emissions is around 0.9884 lbs CO2 per kWh (we're going to use the metric system, so 0.4483 kgs CO2 per kWh) [2]
    • A simple monitor consumes around 11 W [3]

    So an hour of laddering is around 0.451 kWh, which is equivalent to 0.202 kg CO2. If you ladder for 5 hours, you just pooped nearly 1 kg, or 2.2 pounds of CO2 in the atmosphere.

    If you use a gaming notebook, congratulations, you're a little more energy efficient. A typical gaming notebook consumes about 200 Wh (you can check this on the charger, mine is 195.85 Wh), so you can go even further without damaging the planet, and one hour of laddering on a gaming notebook amounts to 0.206 kWh -> 0.09 kilograms of CO2 (or 0.19 pounds).

    So, ladder wisely. Use your time efficiently. Do not compromise mother nature by playing macro games. Think of the earth, give some love to those cannons, proxy hatches and weird reaper all-ins.

    With all this change from WCS to ESL and talk of new tournaments and events...well, there's one event that I really wish would make a comeback, and that's a new Shoutcraft Kings in honor of Totalbiscuit and iNcontrol. Those two did a lot for Starcraft and I wish their memory would be kept alive and honored by more than just an announcer pack. Their casting duo was amazing in those series, the matches were amazing, the prize pools and players were amazing...That tournament was a lot of fun and I'd hate to see that format just go away forever...

    If TB could keep that tournament going while on chemotherapy, surely the Starcraft community can come together and make it happen? There's a lot of passion and talent in this community still!
