Beginner Question: How to practice Broodwar other than getting repeatedly destroyed by Korean smurf accounts?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 05:59 PM PST

I played Starcraft II when I was in high school, but I always really appreciated and enjoyed watching pro Broodwar matches. Recently I picked up Starcraft Remastered and watched Day[9]'s Learning Starcraft series. I've been playing most nights after work for the last two weeks and while I'm starting to enjoy the game, I've barely had a chance to make it out for the very early/mid game.

I play on the US East server with an extremely low rank 900~ (F) and it seems almost every other player I face is a Korean account with a IIIIIII bar name. I don't mind playing Koreans in theory, after all you have to play the best to learn, but it's extremely obvious these aren't actually F rank skill players, but either smurf accounts or players who simply enjoying farming low ranks on U.S. servers. Almost all of them type WW/GG/ㅈㅈ right at the beginning of the game and proceed to rush me. I've started to be able to defend the first waves, but then I get destroyed right afterword because I get almost no practice for how to play after the first attack. Again I don't mind losing most games or playing the occasional smurf, but it's extremely frustrating not to be able to find a game with another beginner to play against after playing for hours. Losing can be a learning expirence, but losing for hours straight and not getting a single close game all night just makes me want to quit and stick to just watching the Pros.

Is there anyway to find matches with other beginners? Or are all the servers just overrun with Koreans who enjoy stomping on noobs? Any suggestions to help me improve faster so I can start to carry my own with these players?

    Brand spanking new

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 11:47 AM PST

Literally brand new player. Did the tutorial last night and I think I'll like this game. I've never played a game like it before. Only ever played LOL and Overwatch exclusively. Please give legitimate tips, how to start, what to be looking at/doing in the beginning. I'm assuming I only want to play 1v1 versus... as I'm assuming that's the main competitive slot. Please help.

I'm looking for an old arcade game but cant remember the name

    Posted: 11 Jan 2020 01:34 AM PST

Hi I've been playing starcraft 1 and 2 since I was very young. When SC2 came out with arcade mode i basically played alot of them and had fun sometimes and others time not so much since i was so young and didnt know what I was doing. Anyway the game starts out with a bunch of the plays as probes in the middle of a randomly generated map with different types of "minerals" just regular minerals retextured with different colors and breakable rocks you try to find a suitable place to set up a wall and defense and you upgrade along with others upgrade your items and collect minerals I tried looking it up and thought maybe it was just called minerals cause obviously but nothing came up is it no longer in circulation or something I really enjoyed that game and if anyone that answers and u played with I think my old gamertag was grant assassin something I'm sorry I had to leave my grandma forced me off. So um please help any and all help is greatly appreciated and have a lovely day.

Question: I've used master archives to re-play all 3 LOTV Prologue missions on hard but status has not updated - do I need to restart the campaign?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2020 01:09 AM PST

    Hello friends,

As per title, I originally played through LOTV Prologue missions on a mixture of normal + hard. On the summary screen it says 'Difficulty normal' as I would expect.

Since then I've used the master archives to re-play any missions that were previously completed with normal difficulty, on hard - so I was expecting the summary screen to say 'Difficulty hard' now but it doesn't.

Do I have to restart the LOTV campaign to get the game to update this? I don't mind if thats the case, as my next challenge is to re-play the big main campaign for LOTV on hard, but wanted to know if I should do it through the master archives as I have been, or if I need to re-start the campaign to get things like that to update.

Am unsure what's the correct way to do it - and will I lose anything by re-starting a campaign?

Here's some links to my imgur photos which shows the summary saying 'difficulty normal', and the breakdown proving I've done all the 3 missions on hard now:

A few IRL friends I know play team games on Fri/Sat. They are usually on Ventrillo so whoever isn't playing can listen in to both team channels. 2v2/3v3/4v4.

If you're Old and Gold, you are welcome to join just msg me.

I'll be streaming the games on my channel. We will start after 9pm EST tonight.

Two People Same Network One Off, Can't Battlenet

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 08:38 PM PST

Hey, my brother my wife and I want to play broodwar on battlenet but we can't all three join a game. We think it is because my wife and I are coming in from the same ip, but we're not sure. What's happening is that no matter who hosts the game, neither I nor my wife can join if the other one is in. Any one else have this problem?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2020 07:16 AM PST

I've attempted to get into the competitive parts of StarCraft several times, I've played through all three campaigns around 4-5 times and absolutely love the game. Any advice on how to transfer from campaign to multiplayer? I'm sure it taught me some bad habits haha. I mainly play Zerg.
