Why do high level players make "artificial moves" that increase APM?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 11:20 PM PST

I've seen in many SC2 videos pros that just do artificial moves such as selecting a unit and moving it to a place and while it's still going change the place by a very small amount 5 times just because. Also, continuously boxing workers at the start without doing anything. Also, switching cameras while no info can be gained from other cameras. This happens mostly in the early game.

I'm a new player (60 recorded matches IDK if that counts AI), so I apologize if it was obvious

what is the best way to improve?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 05:20 PM PST

    Hi,

TL:DR; Macro is the most important, but what's the best way to learn to macro better? I think that just focusing on macro only during a game might not be the best way since that won't teach you the knowledge of how to optimally spend your resources.

I recently started playing Zerg. I got into diamond 3 and my mmr seemed pretty stable there. Recently I've been curious about getting better, so yesterday I started watching Vibe's bronze to gm series which had some great tips and was basically suggesting to focus purely on macro at my skill level.

I think I unconsciously absorbed some of his suggestions, but then I lost like 20 games in a row today and my mmr dropped to plat 2 from diamond 3. It occurred to me that this was because in Vibe's videos he is focusing only on macro and always making the right amount of drones while having just the right amount of units/with the right composition to defend attacks.

However, if I sit back and focus on macro, but don't have sufficient game knowledge to always make the right amounts of drones/units in response to what i see when i scout, that gives my opponent many opportunities to get an edge. If I play passive I can only win if my macro is much better than theirs, which seems unlikely if we're at the same MMR.

It isn't hard to win when you're being aggressive because you just need your opponent to mess up once. I tried playing my normal more aggressive style, and winning was relatively easy again.

I understand that macro is most important, but what is the best way to learn to play a more macro style? Since just trying to sit back and defensively macro didn't seem to be working because I don't think I had the same level of knowledge that Vibe had in his videos.

    Thank you!

    SC Scene since ~September 2019 - Meta/Pros/patches/balance

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 06:48 PM PST

    Hi guys,

I haven't had a chance to keep up with SCII at all for the last 3 or so months. Hoping to get back into it a bit more. At present I have not seen the tournaments/patches/meta since then.

The TLDR of where I left off was Serral was the best and people whined about Protoss a lot due to immo pushes vs Zerg and uh idk generally just lasers vs Terran (though IIRC Protoss whined about Terrans a lot and Zerg late game)

I played the game quite consistently from BW until a few months ago with a few patches of inactivity like this one.

    Any major developments?

South Korean players currently in military service?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 01:23 PM PST

Can anyone provide me with a list of South Korean players currently in military service, irrespective of whether they are intending to resume their professional careers once discharged?

I'm just curious if players like Ryung or Losira are currently inactive due to military service or if they've just left the game behind.

    2020 GSL Schedule

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 09:42 AM PST

I'm going to be living in Japan for the first half of next year, and I'd love to make a trip to Seoul to be able to catch the GSL Season 1 finals while I'm over there.

Does anyone know when they're going to announce the 2020 GSL schedule so I can start booking the trip?

    Thanks.

Can somebody teach me how to play the game?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 06:32 AM PST

So I decided to download starcraft 2 yesterday and the game is really complicated in my opinion atleast. I was wondering if there is someone who could teach me the basics of the game for free. I am 14 years old and if possible maybe you could teach me by talking in discord with me.

what do you guys think about AoE spellcaster's?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 10:44 AM PST

i watched homestory cup and the WESG games and thought 'hey that looks fun' but then i see 2 parasitic bombs kill 20 vikings and a dozen liberators or 30 mutas, or storm making any tier 1 unit unusable. Protoss players can't be to happy about emps either.I don't wanna talk about balance but about the resulting gameplay and fun.

How do I access the “Unit comparison” mini game?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2019 02:57 PM PST

I remember seeing some sort of tool within Starcraft where you can put some units in a small square and have them fight to see how they affect each other or which one wins.

I cant seem to find this in the game.

    How do I access this?

    Sorry for the Noob question
