Etiquette: Is it wrong to leave mirror matches at the start?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 10:13 PM PST

Hi all - one thing I've felt conflicted about: I play zerg and I hate ZvZ. It's actually my best match up, but I find it to be incredibly linear and very same-y. I much prefer non-mirror matches. ZvP and ZvT are exciting and dynamic and fun in my opinion.

So, given that, is it wrong that I leave ~80% of my ZvZ Matchups by the end of the 3 second timer? I worry that it distorts the MMR matchmaking. But on the other hand, in talking to other zerg players they often hate it just as much as I do.

Can't See the Observer Shimmer on Oxide

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 10:07 PM PST

Is anyone else having difficulty seeing the shimmer of observers on Oxide?

I typically find observers near my base by zooming in and out, which makes the shimmer easy to notice. However, on Oxide, I never find them, and when I look at replays from Oxide, I know exactly where the observer is, but when I switch to my view, I am unable to notice the shimmer, even though I know exactly where to look.

Please see attached replay, and follow his vision at the end.

He moves into position and blinks onto my dropship completely blind.

I understand him moving his stalkers over there because his pylon scouts the other location, but the blink timing and click spamming to my dropship seems very suspicious. Let me know what you think.

There have been 25 maps introduced to the ladder since 2019. Oxide has the second worst performance for a race (Zerg) of all those maps, only surpassed by Turbo Cruise '84 LE (Protoss)

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 10:51 AM PST

First, yes this is a balance whine post. Second, this is not exactly quality analysis, so think of this post primarily as a jumping off point for a discussion about the balance of this map.

Anyhow, there have been twenty-five 1v1 ladder maps introduced since 2019 in StarCraft 2. For all three races, I added their non mirror match up win percentages for each of these maps. A "balanced" score would be 1 and the higher the score, the better the map is for that race overall. The score furthest from a balanced score is by far Purity and Industry LE with Terran scoring a 1.228. The second is Turbo Cruise '84 LE with a score of 0.813 for Protoss. And coming in third (and second for worse performing) there is Oxide LE, where the PvZ and TvZ win rates are respectively .559 and an absolutely absurd .605. This leaves Zerg with a score of .836.

So I ask, is this map as imbalanced for Zerg as these win rates imply? And if so, what features of the map are responsible?

Also for those who care, the next three furthest scores from 1 are Turbo Cruise '84 LE (Zerg 1.154), Purity and Industry LE (Zerg .871), and Submarine LE (Terran 1.138).
