I still find it hard to accept that he is gone.... Even though i never met him in person, I miss him. He was so a passionate about SC2 & a pillar of the community.

    Serral takes it 4-2!

    Deathaura: Serral 0-1 Trap

    Eternal Empire: Serral 1-1 Trap

    Submarine: Serral 2-1 Trap

Ice and Chrome: Serral 3-1 Trap

    Ever Dream: Serral 3-2 Trap

    Golden wall: Serral 4-2 Trap

    Game 1:

Trap opened 4 gate gladept, got some damage done, followed up with speed prism ruptor drop and closed the game with a big 3 base push.

    Game 2:

Trap opened with oracle into 4th base cancel stalker/sentry moveout but Serral was well prepared and sent Trap back. Trap transitioned into blink and colossi and Serral went for ling/bane/ravager. Serral never let Trap get a 4th base and kept his drone count low. Serral lost a lot of banelings on Trap's side of the map and Trap counter attacked but despite the very close fight the eco damage was just too much to overcome at that point.

    Game 3:

Serral opened 12 pool and Trap held it pretty well. Trap followed up with a dt drop that achieved little while Serral's ling runby cancelled Trap's 3rd. Serral went for roach/ravager and through several fights gained a large supply lead. Serral close out the game with swarmhost.

    Game 4:

Trap opened fast dt without 2base gasses and fast 3rd instead (perhaps he intended to go adept printer but changed when he got scouted fast?). Trap stayed back for a long time until Serral decided to go for a 40 drone roach/ravager attack that rolled over Trap.

    Game 5:

Trap was going for adept printer but Serral went for a long flood that couldn't break the wall but denied wg. Trap powered up on 2 bases for a long time before moving out and just crushing Serral.

    Game 6:

Trap opened adept printer and Serral defended well with roach/ling. Trap followed with 2 base immortal/sentry/adept push that eventually included disruptors as well as there was constant fighting for 5 minutes until baneling speed finished and Traps 2 base finally ran out of steam.

    $858,052.94, just barely edging out Maru's $856,251.98.

I really hope Blizzard buffs Protoss before DH Fall

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 08:58 PM PDT

Hey, I know balance is always a charged topic but by this point watching DH Summer you could feel we all know what's up.

The casters, the players and the community all agree Protoss needs a buff. It's not healthy for a competitive e-sports that 33% of the player base can't compete for tournament wins (and hence 33% of the fanbase can't cheer for them).

Aside from this, PvZ games are just boring. They're always an all-in and either it works or it doesn't. There is no tug of war. I can't remember Protoss gaining an advantage after the 10 minute mark and turning the game around.

A good example is game 2 of Trap vs Serral. At the 11 minute mark, it was 12k resources lost for Serral and 6k for Trap. Trap made no major mistakes the whole game. Serral on the other hand, suicided 80 banelings with almost no damage into Trap. If a Protoss would make a mistake like this and lose the majority of the army, the game would be completely over. Yet Serral has such an insane economy that he can still win the game. Some will say: Trap was so far behind economically that he deserved to lose. But it's not like at any point in time Trap could have prevented that from happening. He made a stargate opener and killed no drones because Serral defended well. But that should not be the end of the game - Stargate is a standard macro opener and not a failed all-in.

There are honestly multiple things wrong with the matchup that need fixing - it requires a major change and not just +1 range for the templar.

Some things that should be looked at:

    • Macro builds: Protoss can only beat Zerg if they do an all-in. If they don't have a severe advantage at minute 7, the game is over. This makes Protoss a 1-trick pony. Best case, they beat a strong Zerg in a BO5, then get destroyed by the next Zerg they face. This happened many times in recent memory, e.g. Trap beating Reynor and losing to Serral, Zest beating Serral and losing to Rogue at Katowice or Classic beating Rogue and losing to Dark at Blizzcon.
    • Defenders advantage: Protoss has almost no defenders advantage against Zerg. Shield batteries die instantly to ravagers. Zerg has creep + queens, which are significant advantages in both the early and late game when defending. Protoss needs a legit defenders advantage against Zerg to be able to deal with roach/ravager pushes.
    • Harass: I never see Protoss being able to hurt the economy of the Zerg in the mid game. Either by that point they won the game, or the economy of Zerg is completely out of control. Zerg on the other hand has Baneling drops and runbys which are very powerful and in every 2nd PvZ of Serral, Reynor & Dark there are 20 probes going down to a single attack, sometimes multiple times per game. Zealot runbys are figured out and don't do damage at the highest level. It feels like a slap in the face that Zerg can remax drones so fast and recover from economic damage, yet at the same time they are better at dealing economic damage in the mid and late game too.
    • Vision: Protoss has a very hard time to clear creep and hence every PvZ it just takes over the map. At that point Zerg has full map vision which makes it very difficult to make any comeback plays in the mid and late game. Creep vision needs a nerf or Protoss needs a legit amazing way to clear creep. Anything that increases the skill ceiling is welcome, since Zerg seems to be fine at at the top 100 level, just not at the top 10 level.
    • Banelings: it feels insane that Zerg can just make banelings against everything that Protoss has to over. It's totally fine that banelings destroy Zealots, but why are they a good choice against mass colossus/mass archon? After Trap destroyed 80 banelings of Serral with his 4-5 colossus, Serral decided to build another 50 banelings and he won the game because Trap was out of force fields. It's absurd. Protoss needs a hard counter to mass banelings, e.g. banelings need to trade way worse against stalkers & archons.
    • Late-game: after Serral beat Stats in late game PvZ in 2018 Blizzcon finals, Blizzard for some reason decided to give a massive nerf to carriers. It didn't seem broken at the highest level at all, so this change never made any sense to me. By the time late game comes around Protoss was always behind economically, so holding on to get to mass air was one way to come back and win the game. By nerfing carriers so much, this comeback mechanic for Protoss was removed from the game.

Honestly - the worst thing that Blizzard could do now is nothing and just open DH Fall with this state of balance. Protoss is underperforming heavily in all important tournaments that included strong Zergs & Terran (GSL, DH EU & DH global finals). I really hope they don't make the same mistake as with Blizzcon last year and just go into another tournament when already in advance it is clear that Protoss can't win.

POLL: Disregarding feasibility, would you like to see a redesign of Protoss?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 01:29 AM PDT

(TLDR: WOULD YOU GUYS LIKE A REDESIGN OF PROTOSS IN THE OFF SEASON OF 2020?)

I understand there are very obvious limitations to this proposal and reasons why it's probably 99.9% unrealistic at this point in Starcrafts lifecycle, but please bear with me for a second.

Just for a moment imagine GodKing dApollo getting on his unicycle towards Irvine, where he shares a Chai latte with his bro JA Brack and they get into a heated debate about Protoss. Shaun is an intelligent man and a passionate Starcraft fan and he dislikes where Protoss has gone in the past few years. Brack hates people in general, and the ones that enjoy Blizzard games especcialy so. They come to a concensus. They're going to call Dustin 'The Rock' Browder and David 'Dayvie' Kim back into the office and get back to work on Starcraft. Browder comes in wearing a facemask depicting TERRIBLE TERRIBLE DAMAGE and Kim walks behind him with his adorable signature smirk. The three musketeers and their boss mr. Demonspawn get to work.

Protoss, they agree, has some issues. Issues that have kinda always been there since the beginning, where OMG COOL was the leading design principle in the game. They've learned a lot since then. They're strongly considering to design some aspects of Protoss so the race and describe three main goals.

    1. They want the race to play more dynamically.
    2. They want the race to be less centered on all-in strategies and cheeses.
    3. They want the race to be more conducive to individual skill and decisionmaking of players.

How to go about this, they don't know. Like good game designers do, they start to garner advise. The most credible and powerful source for game design consultance is old.reddit.com/r/starcraft. For this consultancy agency they have just one simple question.

WOULD YOU GUYS LIKE A REDESIGN OF PROTOSS IN THE OFF SEASON OF 2020?

They especcialy value the votes of people who go into the comment to give their ideas and suggestions!

    Have a good week lads!

Oldest (30+ years) pros still competing at a high level?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 06:43 PM PDT

Google is far from useful when trying to research this topic... get a lot of articles from 3+ years ago or just a note of a player who is now old.

Anyway, are there old (in regards to Esports that is) pros still competing in SC2 or even SC1?

Do we have any idea what the future of SC2 is?

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 12:11 PM PDT

I've played starcraft since Broodwar. I played SC2 beta, and have played on and off for the last 8 or whatever years.

I just came back to play a little co-op and arcade(I think I'm done with ranked now, too old). I'm a little out of the loop. Has blizzard ever said what their plans are for the future? Will they keep making coop commanders? Will they eventually stop balance updates, or severely limit their frequency? Is there any hope for a starcraft 3, or another expansion?

    Starting Multiplayer -> Advice? [Terran]

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 01:16 AM PDT

Im thinking of starting my games in Multiplayer but i never played online before. As I like Terran the most i would choose that Race.

Im mostly a all army hotkey type who prefers macro over micro but even macro is hard for me after my second base.

I would like to get every advice for playing Terran and for controlling my game better in terms of fights, base building and hotkey layout.

    Thx ^
