Always great to see new tournaments starting (or in this case coming back after years of absence).

So thanks to everyone who made it possible, especially the casters ZG, Rotti, Wardi & Day9, thanks to all the sponsors Shopify, Twitch, Ting & SecretaLab and thanks to TL and everyone who worked behind the scenes for an awesome tournament!

GSL Finals TY vs Cure: TY’s Review (Translation in post)

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 07:48 AM PDT

Did another TY's review since so many people liked it. This might be my last at least for a while. Maybe if TY has another deep run and if I am not busy. Have fun :D

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5LiX46-z3A

0:16 I prepared a lot for the Finals, but our scvs kept on meeting in the middle.

0:26 I got goosebumps because we both went mech builds. I didn't even anticipate him going mech.

0:33 Nobody expected me to wear Afreeca's uniform. It was a surprise event and even Afreeca's staff members were astonished that I was wearing that uniform. I am curious how everybody reacted to my little event.

0:50 Cure showed me that he made 2 reapers which delays his timing on his cyclone production. I was originally planning on pushing with my BC + hellions, but after seeing his 2 reapers, I changed plans. I realized I could do damage with a 4 hellion push.

1:21 After I saw his banshee, I couldn't decide whether I should make a BC or a viking. If the banshee came straight to my base, I didn't have anything to defend if I start producing a BC since it takes forever to come out. So I told myself ''I will acknowledge Cure's nerves of steel if he sends his banshee straight to my base''. Then I just decided to make a BC.

2:11 I realized at this moment that Cure was going a mech build after I saw the fourth gas. Since he got some workers killed, I knew he was a little behind.

2:30 I lost too many workers here and I thought that I had to do something, so I focused on making units at this point. If you look at the right, you can see I called down extra supplies for my supply depots. I wasn't warmed up properly and made some miniscule mistakes. I wasn't satisfied how I played on the first set.

2:53 Honestly, I kind of gave up on the first set because this map was hard to practice on and I wasn't really sure how I should approach this map. My initial plan was to give away the first set and win the next 4 sets. After I won the first set, I felt so good that everything was going my way.

3:15 Cure should have sent his cyclones to the right and flanked my reinforcements and tried to buy time until he had a proper army to defend. But I think he made some micro mistakes and couldn't execute what he was supposed to do.

3:42 Cure has 8 factories and has a 40 supply surplus over me! He was ahead by a lot.

4:03 He wasn't supposed to use anti-armor missiles here since cyclones are based on mag-field damage. He would have defended this push if he used interference matrix on 2 of my BCs and attacked with his cyclones. I think Cure panicked a bit since this might have been his first time encountering this build.

*I did not fully understand the relevance between anti-armor missiles and mag-field accelerators (or cyclones) so I translated from what I could understand. Might not be accurate. Sorry I'm a noob plz don't hurt me.

4:29 He was a little late on his scvs. All of my BCs survived. BCs are like Mosquitoes. If they survive, they will annoy you continuously and make a living Hell out of you.

5:08 As Cure backed off his cyclones, I noticed that his CC was about half health. His CC looked so fragile so I took it away :D By trying to save his cyclones, Cure gave up something more important. As Cure was so poor at this point, he didn't have the luxury to repair up his CC. It's the exact same reason why I can't repair my imported car. You might not realize it but repairing an imported car is a waste of money.

6:02 If you want to defend against a BC build, you have to continuously produce ravens but Cure didn't do that. So it was so comfortable for me. I was able to keep having profitable fights this entire game. If I attack a base with BCs, every single cyclone has to come to defend, and my main army could waltz in an open spot.

6:42 Our scvs meet here. I was originally planning on building a barracks right behind his main base at the 6 o' clock location and was going to lift off my barracks to his main base just like I did against Solar. I wanted to do a marauder push but my scv got spotted. I was confident to pull off this build and take an easy win but things didn't go according to plan.

7:28 Crucial moment. I made a mistake on my siege mode position but Cure made a mistake as well. If Cure's cyclone locked on my tank, he would have killed it but he locked on one of my marines.

8:04 At this moment, I realized Cure was so distressed and he wasn't in his comfort zone. We are literally sitting right next to each other and I could tell. I told myself to be cautious and aggressive at the same time while I had a score advantage.

8:43 What is this? Let's watch this. (8:52) Wow! (8:55) Ugh! (9:12) this coffin music is so sad. It is so sentimental.

9:21 It's been quite a while since I got these cheer placards. This feeling was so refreshing and I asked the GSL producer if I could bring these home. I am going to keep these as they are made with sincerity.

10:13 Nada :D such a long time ago

    10:35 When I was a wild boar

10:44 What is this? Haha (TY's first name has the meaning "Sun")

11:27 (the video he is watching talks about how TY's winner prediction is always wrong. It shows players getting eliminated after TY predicted that they will advance)

I should have a drink with Rogue. Should I not predict from now on? I thought about the players' feelings and I think they will be annoyed with my predictions. (Viewers tell TY to keep making predictions). Okay I will just be selfish and keep making predictions.

12:07 (The video talks about TY reaching the GSL finals 3 times including Super Tourney and falling short to second place) (this original picture is SoO frowning after he got second place AGAIN. It is a popular meme when making fun of SoO)

    What? That's my face? :)

12:15 I built my factory at my natural to fake out Cure. I wanted him to think I was proxying barracks but he never scouted. I realized he was doing his own thing. Darn it.

12:47 (viewer mentions that Cure went 2 starports) What? He went 2 starports? I just noticed that after you told me. Thanks for the good information. He had so many ravens. Is there such a build? Oh it was popular for a month? I was so confused when I saw 5 ravens. I thought Cure diligently produced ravens from a single starport. I was a little surprised of the numbers of ravens.

13:24 Thought this game was a bit difficult to pull off since my first drop didn't do enough damage. I didn't really get a lot of damage from his ravens though.

13:49 This was so weird. It seemed he didn't have much and I was second guessing if he had a fourth CC or a ninja base. If you have that many ravens, isn't it possible to put 10 turrets and kill off a CC?

14:34 I didn't have the guts to chase the ravens with my viking. Stimpack was meaningless. (Clapping and thanking for $10 donation) I lost a lot of workers here and there is only one thing to do here. Punish him back with an all-in. I had no choice but to do an all-in.

15:34 I am commentating next season as well. I am also commentating on the streamer event in AfreecaTV. There are no games for me to participate for a while (bragging that he has no games until next season Ro16)

16:02 (Clapping and thanking $110 donation) Where did you come from? Who is this? It's been a long time since I had the pleasure to meet a noble man

16:31 Our army size and composition is exactly the same. This game was purely based on skills.

16:47 This was a fine play. This was the key play of this game. Cure had to come towards my army but his building placements made it difficult for him as the marines would get stuck between the buildings. This was huge. Cure should have made vikings but it was a detrimental mistake from him not making them. If you don't have Vikings, vision will be always on my side. His medivacs keeps on getting picked off, having unfavorable positioning on his tanks.

17:39 I thought I may have been overextending here but eventually I got the CC. This was huge.

17:53 I had a hard time this game since Cure was repeatedly having skirmishes

18:00 (viewer asks about Runner-up aftereffect) You get it for about 3 days. Even if you get knocked off in Ro16 or Ro8, it goes for 2 days.

18:12 Liberators… Liberators !!! easy to use liberators since I have air superiority. But I made a mistake here by misjudging the range of my liberators. (Clapping and thanking for $10 donation)

18:46 Cure couldn't finish 3/3 upgrades. My supply and worker count are behind but his upgrades are behind. The reason behind is that he lacks orbital commands resulting in lack of mules.

19:40 :D At this point, I was thinking to myself that I might win this. But I always tell myself that it could become a dreadful moment when you get arrogant. But I can't resist myself. 3-0. I can't adapt myself in that situation. It's hard not to jump to a conclusion. If the score is 3-1, I can concentrate better but 3-0… I can't.

20:13 We meet again. (disgusted) TvT these days is too much of a build order fight. I have to continuously contemplate on how I should alter my build orders.

20:32 I was planning to do just a regular proxy barracks into marauders. If Cure blocked off entrance, I wanted to destroy his supply depot and go into a macro game. (But he couldn't do this because his scv got spotted again)

20:47 Here I was going to do a drop in the Solar zone but a supply depot was already in that spot. ''Cure prepared well for this match''.

21:15 It doesn't make sense if that Solar zone drop works in the Finals. Opponent should be well prepared and should be aware of that spot by this point.

21:23 (Viewer asks if there was a reason why he took the expo on the top side instead of the expo below the main) Was I supposed to take that expo in the bottom? To tell you the truth, I didn't have much time to prepare for Golden Wall. So I just had to spontaneously adapt to the situation.

21:54 (Viewer asks if TY is going to do a strip stream as he promised if he wins GSL) Strip Stream? Uhhh… Strip stream?

22:11 Cure didn't have stimpack in this fight. After this fight, I started to visualize the trophy. ''I think I won. I think I won'' My brain and hands stopped working. I was ahead in this game, but objectively speaking, my game was pathetic. I could have ended this game much sooner.

22:51 TvT crucial tip. While having all these confusing skirmishes, put some depots in the map. They will become your torchlight for the minimap.

23:10 My brain started to freeze here. I should be thinking about the game, but the only thing in my mind is the interview. I have this disease I can't fix. ''Oh the trophy. Trophy. Trophy. Trophy. What am I going to do with the prize money? Should I repair my car?'' I had a hard time because of the butterflies in my stomach.

24:08 I had a feeling that there was going to be a doom drop in my main while this was happening. The supply depot I made there was a saving grace.

24:39 This is a garbage map :D If Cure pushes like this, his natural is wide open. This map is weird. Wow that marine didn't die? He got 18 kills?

25:21 I practiced a lot with Innovation but I lost a lot. He is so good. I even lost games that I was ahead. I could tell his game is on top right now. Innovation and Maru are the best terran right now followed by Cure. Cure was nervous in the Finals and I think Cure is better than I am. (TY didn't mention his name here but I think he was talking about him and Cure if you look into the context)

25:52 We played rock paper scissors to decide our practice partners. I lost against Cure, so Cure practiced with Maru, and I practiced with Innovation (also practiced with Bunny and Special).

26:07 This spot! Strategical dream spot.

26:24 We won't be watching the trophy ceremony :D

Survey for my Bachelor Thesis regarding videogames and eSports (approx 5 minutes)

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 01:12 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

i'm doing a survey for my bachelor thesis regarding the consumption of eSports and videogames. I would really appreciate if you took the time to answer. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

    https://forms.gle/MJazSYGoQPBQ7isb6

One thing I am especially interested in is people who watch eSports but don't really play games themselves, so if you know any people that description fits it would be greatly appreciated if you forwarded the survey to them.

Obviously, I'm looking to get as many people as possible to answer so I am posting this to all the subreddits I think this might be relevant to. If you have any ideas, I might not have thought of feel free to tell me in the comments.

    Thank you very much

Favorite SC2 pro player? (former or current)

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:10 AM PDT

Watching and playing SC2 isn't enough, so I want to hear who is everybody's favorite pro SC2 player (former and current) and why.

My personal favorite is soO; I love rooting for underdogs and watching him win IEM Katowice (2 years ago I think) was extremely rewarding especially after watching him burn through GSL finals losses. His longevity is amazing, and although he's going to the military in 4 months, I hope he comes back and plays in more professional games.
