$1000,- for a gold friend to beat a master friend in sc2

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:11 AM PDT

A buddy whom I play sc2 with has his girlfriend playing it as well and he issued her a challenge that if she could beat him once in 1v1 on a ladder map he'd give her 1k. She's somewhere in gold and he's ~5200 MMR. I immediately said there wasn't going to be a way but figured I'd post in the subreddit.

Bit more context: I'm ~4500 MMR and I win maybe 1 in 5? And that's because it's my best match-up, too.

The tagline "The Only Allies Are Enemies" should have been saved for Brood War. (Spoilers for SC and BW)

    Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:21 AM PDT

On the back of the original box, the game used the tagline "The Only Allies Are Enemies"... And this doesn't really make that much sense in the context of the original game.

Sure, Mengsk betrays Kerrigan and Raynor, but that's the only real act of "allies are enemies" we see within the context of the story. Maybe you could argue the Judicator caste's eventual acceptance of Tassadar and the Nerazim's actions at the last minute, but that's a pretty big stretch.

Fast forward to Brood War- the entire plot is about uneasy alliances between those who would otherwise be enemies- the Khaali and the Nerazim, then both of them, Raynor's Raiders, and the Dominion all working together with Kerrigan's brood to fight against the UED? And it doesn't stop there- once the UED is successfully repelled, the remnants of their fleet, the Dominion, and the Khaali all attack Char together. It's a huge back and forth between different factions making and breaking alliances that they often know won't hold up long term, constantly watching and waiting for the other's betrayal- if they don't make the first move themselves.
