/r/Starcraft is looking to recruit new moderators Posted: 08 May 2020 05:08 PM PDT Hello everyone, We are looking into bringing in a few new moderators. Due to people taking time off, and a desire to bring in some new blood, we have decided to open up recruitment. Moderating /r/starcraft is an unpaid and often tedious position. You will not receive any benefits when it comes to event access, giveaways, or otherwise. Please only apply if you genuinely want to help with the smooth operation of /r/starcraft and you expect to be very active in doing so. The deadline is Saturday, May 29, 2020 at 23:59 UTC. To be considered, you must: Have a reddit account that is at least 6 months old. Be available to be active on reddit for extended periods of time most days. Be able to exercise good judgment. Be able to remain calm under stressful situations. Be able to take criticism well. Have effective written/typed communication. Have an understanding of StarCraft II and the professional StarCraft II scene. Have a firm understanding of the reddit system and at least some of the history of reddit. Have a firm understanding of the current set of rules and flair meanings. Enjoy helping others even with obvious or mundane questions or situations. Be willing to see spoilers for all events and single-player campaigns. Be prepared to see unpleasant things that trolls may post such as shock images, nsfw content, spoilers for popular shows or movies, and generally offensive content. Be fluent in English. Not be associated (staff, team member, et cetera) with another StarCraft-related web site or organization. This is to avoid conflicts of interest. Duties include: Tagging new submissions and checking the mod queue (a combination of the spam filter and reported content queues) at least five times daily. Periodically scanning /r/starcraft for rule-infringing content. Politely helping users with whatever they might need. Application: To apply, create an application on this google doc. All applications will be hidden and viewable only by the moderators. Please fill out every single text field. Note: The above deadline is subject to change. Note: We reserve the right to not select anyone from the pool of applications generated by this submission. Note: We reserve the right to remove you from moderator status if you are made into a moderator and subsequently fail to perform your duties satisfactorily. [link] [comments]

Winrates based upon spawn position in SC2?? Posted: 08 May 2020 05:29 PM PDT I stumbled upon a thread in /r/Dota2 about how spawning as the Radiant (bottom left) has almost a 10% winrate advantage on the Dota2 ladder compared to the Dire (top right). There's a couple hypotheses as to why this might be the case... some of them are due to the tiny asymmetries in the DotA map (which wouldn't apply to other games like SC2 which have perfectly symmetric maps). But other hypothesis are that there's something about spawning on the bottom of maps that makes it easier for humans to have superior mouse control, more intuitive character movement or better vision (due to the GUI of the game not being in the way as often) that is easier for humans to execute when starting on the bottom of the map. If the later hypothesis is true, then you would expect a similar effect to appear in Starcraft. Has anyone looked at "spawn position on 2 player maps" vs "winrate"? I feel like it would be really interesting to analyze the hundreds of maps over the 10 years of competitive starcraft to see if there's really something to this. [link] [comments]
