Food for thought on how this community reacts to things

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 02:15 PM PST

God I really didn't want to make this post but this is my 3rd time writing it and deleting it because I really just want to get this message out there because it extends beyond the current drama of the week.

A lot of you need to calm down from the witch hunting that happens here.

Regarding the Nate/Lambo drama, I don't want to discuss it directly too much but it's pretty unavoidable talking about this. I think what Nate said in that clip was inappropriate to say and sure, I don't always agree with the way he talks about balance. Yes, I know a lot of people don't enjoy Nate's way of expressing himself in these moments of frustration.

But please regulate the way you witch hunt people. The options aren't "innocent" or "the death penalty". I'm actually fine with people expressing their disagreement with how things were handled but saying flat out wrong stuff like "Nate never apologized" or "Nate has shown no remorse" and "Nate needs to apologize" is just frustrating to watch.

Most people, including Nate on both Twitter and his own stream yesterday, agree the stuff said about Lambo should not have been said on publicly or at all. They were said in the heat of a frustrating moment and, to quote Nathanias himself, "that doesn't excuse it" or make it ok. But he apologized for it and explained why it happened.

The reality is that most of us, including myself, get frustrated sometimes and will vent those frustrations. Usually this is done in a private place to close friends and such and unfortunately this stuff was publicly done. I don't think there are actually many major beefs behind the scenes in SC2 but there are definitely times someone will get frustrated with something that happened and it's not abnormal for people to vent about it in a safe space.

I'm not trying to excuse the things Nate said. But I'd be lying if I hadn't made jokes in private about people sometimes or complained to a friend about a player that got on my nerves. Public vs private expression like that does matter but I am really tired of people dialing this up from a 5 to a 20 in severity.

Nate called it a witch hunt on twitter and while I can't speak for his reasoning on the wording, to me I call it one because the disproportionate response and constant context and dismissing apologies/statements on the topic in favor of painting a picture he is completely unremorseful. Making a joke or two when you're under incredibly amounts of excessive hate isn't equated with completely dismissing any and all criticism. If you've ever tried to convince another human being of something, more often than not, excessively yelling and screaming at them is NOT the best way to bring them to your side. It's a great way to put them on the defensive and NOT want to listen to you.

I can't speak for Nate but please stop putting words in his mouth and leaving context out. Not just for Nate but in general on this kind of stuff. I do love this community but god damn do you guys remind me sometimes I'm on the internet, where a very large group of people overreact as fast as possible by only seeing the picture they want to see.

So have your opinions! Disagree with community figures/casters/players/etc! Call us out when we goof! But for the love of god temper your reactions to the situation, not just two modes of apathetic/enraged.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk. I'm regretting saying my piece already.

PSA: Warcraft 3 Reforged has been released in a terrible state

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 07:13 PM PST

While not directly related to Starcraft, I figured Warcraft being the other Blizzard RTS makes this somewhat relevant to the community here. As many of you know, WC3 Reforged launched tonight, and thus far the launch is an absolute shitshow. The game is buggy, does not contain many promised features, and is for many players downright broken.

This just as a heads up to everyone who wants to buy the game: It would probably be best to keep an eye on the respective WC3 subreddits and wait with the buy until it becomes clear on whether they will actually fix this or not.

SC2 Tournament Analysis: What cool stats do you want to see?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:30 PM PST

With IEM Katowice coming up and it being the first big tournament of the new ESL Pro Circuit, I thought it would be a good opportunity to do another analysis of some replays.

I'm thinking of making something similar to this post I made, but more focused on the tournament as a whole instead of specific players and hopefully better designed.

I'd love to hear what interesting things the community would like to see from an analysis of IEM Katowice so I can make something cool for the tournament.

If you have any ideas for things to track/measure, throw a comment up. It could be something fun like the number of Drones roasted, or something analytical like the winrate of Robo first in PvT, etc. Preferably it would be something easy to measure, but if you have some more complicated ideas let me know anyway and I might be able to make it work.

I'll probably make another post after the tournament to get some ideas for some Katowice-specific stats as well.

If all goes well and there's interest from the community, I want to try and make this a regular occurrence for major tournaments.

Let me know about any ideas you have down below!

is it normal for skill to rapidly degrade during breaks from this game?

    Posted: 28 Jan 2020 05:20 AM PST

every time i return to star-craft 2 after taking a break form this game that is 2 or more weeks long i noticed that my skill is much lower than before. Any of you experience that?

With all of my other games the skill half life is much longer and has a higher bottom.
